Praying has an effect on the brain....so he is addicted to praying...instead of alcohol, food, gambling, drugs...its just another addiction....and gets off on that instead....sad in a way....like a computer geek not actually interacting with anyone in a normal fashion. His parents need spanking. [ link to health.howstuffworks.com]  I've read about this work, totally brilliant. It's the thing that most amuses me when people claim some big time "gawd" experience, knowing what they are really doing. Robin Dunbar gives a good account of it in "The Human Story" as well.
