I am skeptic to say the least

I seen old flooring bearing the weight of heavy tables...counters ect... and none of them ever left a trace even of the tables were unmoved for 70 years.

Maybe friction who knows.

That's what I was thinking. The monk must really have been "antsy" during his prayers and pressed/rubbed his feet during prayers in order to leave an impression, that or his feet really sweat a lot, dampened the floor with the oil and sweat along with weight and friction causing the mark.

Edit to add: Really thinking about this, it would have to be his feet sweat a lot. Think if you left something like a planter on your deck that you watered to overfull everyday for even 10 years, when you move the planter there will be a similar type mark/indentation.
