Coup d'etat in ecuador declared
I haven't seen this posted anywhere, but I received call that ecuador woke up to a coup d'etat today, following suspicions of false plays by its current president Rafael Correa.

Rafael Correa also wanted to reduce the military/police's salary, bonuses and promotions.

QUITO (Rooters) - Unrest erupted in Ecuador on Thursday with soldiers taking control of the main airport and police protesting in the streets while President Rafael Correa considered dissolving a deadlocked Congress.

Members of Correa's own left-wing party are blocking legislative proposals aimed a cutting state costs, prompting him to consider disbanding Congress, a move that would let him rule by decree until new elections, one of his ministers said.

That sounds like serious business. Not to get woo-woo on this thread but I had a dream that a shift of power in Ecuador would be accompanied by an oil drilling accident and then a powerful earthquake in which a city, presumably Los Angeles or one in the Caribbean/South America, would be swallowed by the ground in a cloud of dust. Could be a metaphor though. I posted it as 'Oil Caldera.." on prophecies.us.

About 150 members of the security forces in Ecuador have taken over the runway at the airport in the capital, Quito, forcing it to shut down.

It comes as police and troops in the country stage protests over government plans to cut their benefits.

A bridge and main access road into the capital are reported to have been blocked by protesters.

President Rafael Correa has appeared before protesters at a barracks in Quito to appeal for calm.
"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves, in the course of time, a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it."

My Vonnegut reference was related to his book 'Galapagos." Stranger than fiction novel that is a must read for GLPers.
