Recover data from bad hard disk?
Anyone know how to do this? The disk doesn't spin. When I try to boot up i get a dos prompt error, cant't read HD. I don't care about it getting to boot, there are just a few files (web pages I made) I'd like on it... I can't afford 100-200 dollars to have someone do it.. please help

Re: Recover data from bad hard disk?
Unfortunately you're in a bind...

In order to recover the data, a tech will need to access the bad drive, and run hours of testing software to see if there IS any recoverable data. Then they will need to pull that data off and burn it to a cd/dvd.

This is a process that can take one to two days, depending on what is going on with the hard drive.

You may not be able to boot due to a very small problem, but it's difficult to tell without a diagnosis.

Try to find someone that offers free diagnosis and troubleshooting. At least you will then know what you're up against without any money out of pocket. It's also possible that the hard drive is fried and none of the data is available.

Long story short: ALWAYS back up your data weekly!
