Message Subject How Did They Train Everyone To Want a Job?

Prior to the industrial revolution there was no concept of being unemployed. People got by on subsistence farming and selling their own handicrafts.

The industrial revolution made it easy to quickly and cheaply mass produce many items that people used to painstakingly make by hand to earn any cash they needed.

A woman who spent weeks shearing, spinning, dying, and knitting her own wool just to make a few scarves could not compete with a factory rapidly mass producing scarves and selling them much more cheaply than she could afford to do.

So people began flocking to the cities to work for the factories that had put them out of the handicraft business.

This is where "everyone wanting a job" all began, though it took many more decades for it to become ingrained in the Western psyche.

Government takeover of the education system helped cement it. In public schools everyone is taught, "To become successful, go to college and get a good job." You'd have to go to an elite, private school to even hear entrepreneurialism mentioned.

Then add in the fact that government regulations keep making it more and more difficult and expensive to start up and succeed at having your own business. I had to starve for months just to come up with enough money to pay the required estimated taxes before I could even begin mine. How ridiculous! Being required to pay taxes on money you haven't even made before you can start doing business is insane!
