Anonymous Coward User ID: 1128439 China 10/13/2010 07:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you guys don't have good translation I can do that for you tonight. But MSM is China said this was mere rumor. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1129309Let me weigh in here on some of the difficulties in understanding machine translations from Chinese to English. They are useless. In this case, the translation into English may be that a village "disappeared". Yet the translation of the original Chinese text does not take into account the way Chinese people actually use the word in a daily basis. The impression from the article when translated is that a whole Village Disappeared. But, knowing how Chinese people communicate, the meaning is something different. Consider it hyperbole or exxaggeration on the part of the writer. As with many Chinese writers, the writer of this story has embellished the truth. He has spun a yarn like a "Big Fish story". There was probably a blue light seen over the village. IT could have been a UFO. And probably some of the local villagers panicked. Some of them may have run away out of fear. The writer is mocking those fools. The word "disappered" is sometimes used derogatively in relation to cowardly behaviour or someone who makes himself scarce to avoid something unpleasant like work. Example: "Where's Zhou, there's a lot of work to do!" "I don't know. He must have disappeared." Or in this case: "After a blue light appeared in the sky, the village disappeared." The meaning being, that people ran away...not that they were abducted or that the entire village was physically moved. And by the way, in China, there are soldiers everywhere. So for soldiers to be near the site of this report, is in of itself, not unusual. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1130741 United States 10/15/2010 01:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ji Nan reporting: 13 October. Firstly, regarding the (Internet) post of "A village at the base of the Qin Ling Mountains disappearing/vanishing in the night," it spread insanely quickly on the Internet, especially on the Blogs where it was re-published with a frenzy. This reporter went to a number of places in order to confirm/verify whether this news ( item ) was connected to an Internet rumor. I heard that yesterday, at four AM, that a village at the base of the Qin Ling Mountains had completely disappeared/utterly vanished during the night, and that now/currently there were large numbers of military units sealing off the scene (of the occurrence). This reporter saw under a listing for Qin Ling on BaiDu (basically, a Chinese Google) that a large number of Internet Friends were paying close attention to the so-called "disappearance of the village at the foot of the Qin Ling Mountains." Even more Internet Friends were skeptical with respect to this incident. Today (13th) this reporter went, respectively, to the XiAn Provincial Public Safety Office, to the ShanXi Provincial Military District, and to the cities of HanZhong, AnKang, YuJi, XiAn City, and ShangLuo, all of which surround the Qin Ling Mountains. Each place uniformly said that they had not received any reports relating to (this incident). This Internet posting should be categorized/be placed in the category of an Internet Rumor. ________________ As you can see, the originally reported story is more skeptical than the credulous people repeating it over here. Jeff Griffith (Xinhua Ji Nan) 10 13, one on "the end of the Qinling Mountains to a village to disappear overnight," the post pass crazy on the network, especially in the micro-Bo was crazy reserved. After many journalists confirmed that the network confirmed rumors of the news department. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 886008"I have heard, yesterday at 4 am, a village in the Qinling Mountains at the end, all disappeared overnight! ... ... There are a large number of troops sealed off the scene ... ..." Baidu Post Bar in the Qinling reporter saw a lot of friends concerned about the so-called "foot of the Qinling Mountains next village disappeared." More users skeptical on the matter. Reporters today (13), respectively, to Shaanxi Provincial Public Security Bureau, Shaanxi Military District, and the Qinling Mountains surrounding Hanzhong, Ankang, Baoji, Xi'an, Shangluo confirmation, the parties did not receive any relevant reports have indicated that Network attached network belongs to the rumors. |
