Let me weigh in here on some of the difficulties in understanding machine translations from Chinese to English.

They are useless.

In this case, the translation into English may be that a village "disappeared". Yet the translation of the original Chinese text does not take into account the way Chinese people
actually use the word in a daily basis.

The impression from the article when translated is that a whole Village Disappeared. But, knowing how Chinese people communicate, the meaning is something different.

Consider it hyperbole or exxaggeration on the part of the writer. As with many Chinese writers, the writer of this story has embellished the truth. He has spun a yarn like a "Big Fish story".


There was probably a blue light seen over the village. IT could have been a UFO. And probably some of the local villagers panicked. Some of them may have run away out of fear.

The writer is mocking those fools. The word "disappered" is sometimes used derogatively in relation to cowardly behaviour or someone who makes himself scarce to avoid something unpleasant like work.

Example:

"Where's Zhou, there's a lot of work to do!"

"I don't know. He must have disappeared."


Or in this case:

"After a blue light appeared in the sky, the village disappeared."


The meaning being, that people ran away...not that they were abducted or that the entire village was physically moved.

And by the way, in China, there are soldiers everywhere. So for soldiers to be near the site of this report, is in of itself, not unusual.
