But A suburb of Vancouver ...Richmond...is mostly Chinese. Drives me nuts when I can't read more than %60 of street signs... What are they saying in Chinese? Fortunatly Richmond is mostly land fill. When the big EQ happens it will sink. |

Quoting: DoomamatrixWhile it is always good to know another language and to appreciate other cultures, a demanded cultural suicide of the host country by the immigrant community should NEVER be tolerated. I also agree with her - and you. There are practical reasons also. If all the ballots, government printouts, signs, etc. have to be in another language as is done in the U.S. it is costly. Plus the immigrants have no reason to learn the native language or even use it if they do. In U.S. our schools have been dumbed down to accommodate the kids not proficient in English. |

Quoting: BabsiBut closing up against all immigrants not speaking german when they want to enter is very.....not european... I think the US should make friends with Islam and bring peace back to the world... The problem is - EVERYBODY can enter, all they have to say is Asylum. If we didn't let them in, we were called that terrible "N" word, which ticks everybody off and quite honestly it's getting tiring. The law is, if you want to otherwise immigrate and get a work permit, you have to learn german. Just like I had to swear I know english before I got my immigration papers for the US. Once I arrived there, I was suddenly facing difficulties because it seemed I had to also learn mexican - that ticked me off too. The system is flawed everywhere imho. But why bring religion into this? Many many years ago we had no problems...I had many muslim classmates, turkish, all hard working families, doing the dirty work germans didn't want to do. nobody had a problem then. Now we're facing a different story - history is repeating itself. The economy sucks, so we have to find a culprit. Merkel's statements are pure election talks to get some extra votes. In the end nothing will change, the law is already in place. Instead of addressing the real issues, she uses this topic - low...again, history is repeating itself. Same BS propaganda on every side and in every country. TPTB must have a field day with us Allright that is OK. Look OUR CULTURE is supposed to be one in where EVERYBODY has a chance. I don't think I will ever be a rich asshole, but ok, maybe the chance is there. So, if people do try and learn the language that's ok with me, they should have a chance to learn more and do more. I thought this was different, but it is just about mandatory learning of the language of the country....that's ok, no biggie.... Time is a great teacher, unfortunately it kills all its pupils. |

Yes, there are lots of people in Germany that shouldn't be there and are causing problems. But you want to know something? The screwed up thing is, THEY let them in, because we HAD to when no other country wanted them, for example all the Kosovo Albanians, otherwise we're being name called. But most of the foreigners do work, we've always had a diverse community. I grew up with turkish, spanish and italian children. And each their families were like you, hard working, paying taxes, children speaking german etc. They screwed up a few years back there - and who causes the most trouble? It's a country I don't want to name now, and they're not muslim btw. I hate how she uses this as propaganda - she will cause more hate and division and soon there will be hate crimes and civil unrests. Not the people are the problem, it's the government. |

Many cities already have ghettos here, but voluntary ones, if you go to parts of berlin or cologne you would think you are in istanbul. Now wanting immigrants to at least try to integrate is too much to ask? Its not like we are invading people, expelling and torturing the inhabitants like certain countries. This has nothing to do with racism, my father is iranian, we have ditched islam and speak german very well. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1132582 Singapore 10/16/2010 06:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Merkel is a flip flop. Her party among the others is responsible for mass immigration of poor people into germany over the last decades. Poor people dont have a chance in their homeland, so they go out and search for other countries where they might have a chance. Surely they have not much chances for work in highly industrial countries with a good education niveau. But welfare in germany is better than welfare somrwhere in Anatolia. It's much more comfortable to live from welfare money in a rich state than to be a farmer with no welfare money in a poor country. A country can absorb such immigrants to a certain point. But at a certain point the balance is lost. It's the moment when you have whole neighborhoods in big cities which are only inhabited by people from certain countries. Living their own rules from their homeland. You know the rest...so called "no go areas", crimes etc. ppt |

But when immigrants build small countries inside a country, that is so different, problems will arise. |
