Funny - I have yet to meet a german that likes her. So we can agree on that. The agenda she chose is harsh. Did you read further in the article? It contradicts itself. She's playing the typical Wahlkampf game. But please, you must not preach to the choir here - read the posts of the people. It is being carried out in the wrong way - do you side with that? Shall Germany make the same mistake again? I don't know where you live now, but things are not going too well for most people there now. Things could escalate - look at France :(. I'd hate to see that happening...people need to stop hating, simple as that. It's all politics.

It is simply common respect to learn the native language, or as much as possible in whatever country you live. It demonstrates a respect for the culture and will ultimately lead to better understanding of cultures, their idiosychracies as well as their best and worst attributes.
THats been my experience in some dozen countries. The best were the Germans where my poor Germanic skills were enhanced by sign language (pointing). The French were much more disdainful but not all. Thr MOST obnoxious were Koreans, the most condescending were the Singaporeans and the MOST untrustworthy were the Hebrews and the Mexicans (Spanish). Kowledge is gained through experience and hopefully becomes wisdom. ALL cultures have good and bad. Aside from the Jewish issue (which included all kinds of subsets of 'undesirables-gays, Roma, mentally unfit) Hitler's worse trangression was to disconnect from the Internatioanl moneymasters which led to great prosperity until the international cartel 'stepped in'. In an interesting parallel most of our so calld "Axis of Evil' countries have been guilty of trying to disconnect from the international bankers. You simply cannot have a NWO, one world currency/government without the vast majority of countries on board. US/State Department aid is even used as blackmail to force compliance/submission to achieve these ends. Oil/gas pipeline routes are the MAIN reason but never mentioned.
I for one am sick and tired of getting government forms with attachments for some 6-8 foreign languages even though EVERY time I specify ENGLISH. A waste of time, money, resources and trees. Just think how it is in CONgress. I bet we could cut a few BILLION by stopping such sloppy procedures and STILL meet those Federally mandated 'guidelines' regarding foreign languge requirements on official documents.

I was a bit put off also by some of the comments. Most do not have any idea what the issues facing the average German are nor what the people are like. The average concept of a German is based on Hogans Heroes rather than any form of reality.
