Think about it. They show this program, show how the hillbillys are making money. Someone out of work or thinking about doing the same thing for cash decides to do it, and within a few years, we have the same setup as loggers did to old growth forests. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1018748I find these shows disturbing. Nah, the gator season is fairly short so they aren't killing 20 gators each day. Each hunter gets a certain number of tags so they hang the bait were only the big'uns can reach, sparing the younger ones. Reptiles multiply fast and there are millions of gators in the swamps and bayous down there. |

Quoting: The_ReturnerCan't stand that damned show. True, but the difference between today and the first Great Depression is they DID NOT HAVE TV. Today we do, even poor people. So being unemployed, and seeing the "new gold rush" I believe will spur people to delve into these activities. What natural explotation will come next that the average person can do? When does it end? I see the wildlife being severely affected, as they were when massive poaching was underway during the Great Depression. |

Also, with a sudden rise in people going down there or engaging in the activity for $$$$ as a last hope, I can see things getting out of hand. |

Good point, we shall see how the reptile population deals with corexit altering their genes. |

I think their self reliance is friggen awesome.. Interesting characters. Men teaching their sons how to survive. Pretty neat. Personal responsibility - try it sometime. Quit blaming others for your bad choices. Consequences happen. :enaid11: |
BOMAR User ID: 1136583 United States 10/20/2010 05:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You have to be licensed for one and I agree with the other poster OP is really reaching these people have done this for a long time and besides the laws down there require you to report or kill a gator that is over a certain size. Oh one other point those swamp people will go after any idiot city person dumb enough to go down there I mean really you think some dude named bubba with one tooth and a stub where his foot used to be cruising around the swamp with a couple of guns is gonna give his only paying job plus dinner. HAHAHAHA |

JohnnySmith User ID: 1140861 United States 10/24/2010 07:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Actually, its a huge up front cost in doing this. So not sure how unemployed people would pay for the tags, the license, the gas for the boat, the boat, etc. And besides if they are breaking the law catching gators without having tags for them which I guess is what you are predicting they will be caught and jailed. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 3974962 Canada 02/14/2013 05:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'd rather watch Swamp People than watch that BS reality tv shit like The Real Housewives of New Jersey or the Bad Girls Club or that Bullshit show,Survivor< or the Batchelor etc... See? At least these men work for their living, they don't just sit on their asses all day. You gotta respect a grown man who can fight a 900 pound gator while his partner is trying to squeeze off a shot. A gator can break your leg with one sweep of his tail. and yes, They're doing the communities a favor, it's called population control. If the gators get too breeding out of control, people and kids can be in danger. I like the show, it's better than that other shit you folks call tv. |
