Obvious Signs of the Depression: K-Mart on 34th street in NYC has TONS of Halloween stuff left, few shoppers even at 50% off!

Last year by this time that same store was picked clean. The employee that placed that large of an order is sure to be fired! It may be they ordered the same as usual, but due to the depression, people are skipping the $30-$50 costumes and making their own at home.

When the sales numbers come in, alarm bells will be ringing warnings about upcoming Christmas sales based on dismal Halloween sales.

usually you order, based on sales the year before. Shows how the retail companies have robots for managers

I was feeling bad about waiting for the last minute shopping for my son's costume this year. I had visions of mostly empty racks and him having to make shift something. I was SHOCKED when it looked like nothing had even been bought! I mean those racks were crammed full! They had a full stock of all the accessories too including wigs, makup, pretend swords and the like as well.

I noted is that the huge bins full of Halloween candy were not being bought. They had them aside the walkway near the costumes with excellent visibility. I was the only person purchasing any in the 20 minutes that I was in the Halloween department. And I bought the kit kats because they had been marked on sale 2 for 5 bucks. All of those giant bags of multi candies people bought last year to give out for trick or treat sit unsold this year at a price of $7-$10 a bag. I'm willing to bet the trick or treat loot this year will be half of years prior.

Haven't done Halloween since the kids were small...except for one job where I HAD to spend my hard-earned money for a stupid costume and had to listen to the dumb-asses who thought the sun-bonnet was an antique and I "needed to treasure it"...lol I might buy one bag of candy corn just cause I like it. Not doing "my part" to get us out of this Depression, am I? I'll probably buy a bag of marshmallow bunnies for Easter, too. NO candy canes...I hate candy canes.
