How long does it take to get over nicotine withdrawal?
On my 3rd day without a cig... I feel a constant gnawing in my stomach like I'm always hungry. How long before the nicotine is out of my system? grrrr

Even after the withdrawal ends you'll be hungrier than usual. Tobacco is an appetite suppressant. Food and plenty of liquids.

Thirty days.

Replace with gum or some other oral fixation like lolly pop.

The withdrawal symptoms subside within three weeks. Drink lots of water with a touch of dissolved baking soda in it(makes it easier on all the organs, esp.kidneys). This is a great time to take up a healthy, distracting new habit, like short workouts or walks, pick an overdue chore or spend more quality time with your friend, child or pet.

You are active in being more for yourself and those around you. Congrats!

You're almost there. After the third day it gets easier. Once you get through three days YOU HAVE IT BEAT!! If you stumble and have a puff you have to put it out and start over again.... don't start smoking again. The longer you go the more likely you will go longer without smoking. Lots of good suggestions in the other posts. When i felt like having a smoke i would take a very deep breath and appreciate how good it feels to breath fresh air and be healthy. I also found it very helpful getting back into weights and running. Drinks a lot of water, take vit C, go get a bottle of detox from GNC, go to dentist and get your teeth cleaned... even whitened if you got the cash.

Re: How long does it take to get over nicotine withdrawal?
Nicotine gets out of the system completely after 3 days (72 hours), and habits take 3 weeks to be completely formed (according to a study I read a few years ago, which might've been biased or slanted, so this could be wrong)...so my guess: 3 weeks + 3 days....

Psychological cravings (to have something to chew on or in your mouth) may occur for which there are systems available like e-cigarettes (contains nicotine though) and some otc fake cigs to "smoke"...or picking up some gum, lollypops, or toothpicks.

"These symptoms would usually begin to lessen in three to four days before gradually abating after a few weeks or months."

79.5 years, no just kidding, but nicotine is a bitch. You will be over it in about a week. Use the gum, mix it with cinnamon gum, watch out it is addictive also.Cut it in half if you can't stand it. I used the patch also, but watch using both together, it's dangerous. Good luck, and Don't be discouraged if you go off the wagon even years down the line, you can start over again. Never. I absolutely hate and love that I quit. I still want one every single day. I think it's something in my brain wiring that wants it.

I quit two months ago. Occasionally I still have a sudden, powerful, out of nowhere, urge for a smoke. The important thing to know is that they pass, usually a craving is over within two minutes assuming you can find something else to do.

Keep ICE COLD water on hand. That will kill a craving very quickly - without causing weight gain ;)

Best of luck to you. Quitting is a bitch, but so worth it.

Mission impossible. Never goes away.

Just kidding.

Dayum, I can't believe it now that you have jolted my memory.

10/28/04 is my latest (and longest) quit date. Swear to God, what synxhronicity is that?

Six years, wooHoooo!

Anyhoo, hang in there. Cravings WILL go away regardless whether you light up or you don't.

Matter of choice.

Good luck! flowas
