Subway car speeds below Montreal — with door wide open

Transit officials in Montreal have no idea how it happened, but a door on a subway car remained open as the underground train zoomed between stations Monday.


"If the driver knew that something was wrong he would never have left the station," Societe de transport de Montreal spokeswoman Marianne Rouette said Tuesday. The automated system that notifies the driver that all doors are closed before leaving the station apparently did not work, she agreed. "Someone should have pulled the emergency brake in this case," she added.
