Spyware Forces 91 Percent Of ´Net Users To Change Actions
Computer programs that secretly plant themselves on people´s computers and then monitor users´ online behavior or hijack their browsers have become a scourge, according to a new report from the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

The group said tens of millions of Americans have been struck by so-called spyware and 91 percent of Internet users have changed the way they behave online as they try to avoid it.

**81 percent say they have stopped opening e-mail attachments unless they are sure these documents are safe
**48 percent have stopped visiting particular Web sites
**25 percent say they have stopped downloading music or video files from peer-to-peer networks
**18 percent of Internet users say they have started using a different Web browser to avoid software intrusions

About 93 million Internet users -- 68 percent of them -- have had computer trouble in the past year that is consistent with problems caused by spyware and viruses, though 60 percent of those who had problems were not sure where the problem originated.

About 25 percent of Internet users have seen new programs on their computers that they did not install or new icons on their desktop that seemed to come out of nowhere. One in five Internet users have had their homepage inexplicably changed.

The report says that those who have broadband connections at home and those who range far and wide online are among those most vulnerable to spyware.

Nearly half of Internet users see spyware as a serious threat to their online security. Many believe that more should be done to alert consumers when adware is being loaded onto their computers at the same time they are installing other software.

In many cases, adware is installed after Internet users check off and consent to a user agreement, but 73 percent of Internet users admit they do not always read such agreements.

Some people are apparently too stupid and shouldn´t have computers.

Spyware typicaly run as unattached government run programs to change peoples habits and pry on their habbits, relationships, networks and dealings.

Soon there will be a group providing a quanrantined solution to these pesky intrusive government run operations.

Cyberwars are going to heat very SOON!!!

Watch your data, backup all your important stuff cause there are going to end up being many innocent victims of the wars that are soon to commence.

And backup the data on TAPE enclosed in a magnetic, fire and waterproof containment box. USE BOTH mediums to backup.

Do Not leave your backups near you - store them safely.

Do Not backup to another hard disk and think it will be safe.

Please Backup your data as it must be saved for future references.

Do Not let them burn our data like they did all our books during the last great wars. Leaving knowledge and truth is extremely important for the survival of future generations.

Encrypt it and back it up, all of it!!

If you can, catalogue and make notes of your data so others can follow its meaning.

Keep your data backed up and be prepaired to format and reinstall.

use of good firewall hardware and software is also a good investment.

3350 - Then your data, photos and memories are not important to you then. This is selfish, because it is not important to you does not mean that it may not be important to others that come after you are dead and gone.

You have something to contribute to the world, everyone does. Keep it safe@!

The ONLY True Security is a Mirror Image After a CLEAN Re-install.

PREPARE NOW!!!

Best to use a small HDD1 for your OS(Operating System)
Save Everything to a separate HDD2
Very few of the Baddies contaminate the HDD2.

Save everything to removable media or HDD2.

Use DiskKill to X&0 HDD1.
Format and Install your OS.
Make Mirror Image - save to HDD2
Install Updates which you have previously downloaded.
Make Mirror Image - save to HDD2
Clean OS - Clean Registry & Defraq
Make Mirror Image - save to HDD2
Install your favorite APPS
Make Mirror Image - save to HDD2 - as needed

Periodically Back UP or incrementally BU your Bookmarks and other Data from your APPS on HDD1 to HDD2.

Now your PREPARED!!
In 15 mins or so you can use your MIrror Image to
Re-install just as you First installed -
Byte for Byte.
Best to save a Final Mirror Image to CD/DVD.

NOW you are prepared for the WORST.

At the Very Worst you may have to X&0 the HDD1 with KillDisk Before re-installing the Mirror Image.

Noe you can Surf anywhere - do Whatever you Please -
Because your Properly ready for a Catastrophe.

You might consider an APP like Registry Firewall -
it Alerts and STOPS any attempt to change Registry settings.

You can spend a FORTUNE -
and LOTS of Time and Frustration on anti-Virus, Spybot, Firewall -
go for the FREE ONES -
your now protected with a Mirror Image APP -
That is WORTH the Money -

A Mirror Image is your oNLT TRUE Security.

Re: Spyware Forces 91 Percent Of ´Net Users To Change Actions
I´ll quit using the damn machines before I worry about a war involving them. This is ridiculous shit and we should not be placeing soo much reliance on entertainment. The internet is entertainment and shouldn´t be thought of as any more than that, if so, you become vulnerable. All I do on the internet is play. No business, no banking, nothing really private or important. There is absolutely no privacy or security on the internet and any other outlook is rife with danger.

Ridiculous. Play on, let the others worry. When the game ends I just go back to using the phone, no cell phone either. All this refusal of the technology and I make a living working in technology. I will tell you this, it will fail, it is not reliable, and we should not place soo much reliance in it.
