My great-grandmother died of cancer before they had health insurance
In 1948, my great-grandmother didn't have any health insurance, something which didn't really exist yet, so they just left her to die without any healh care at all.

My grandfather recalls how he was sad having to watch his mother die in a very helpless way. He was only 18 at the time and is still alive today.

Back then of course, they didn't have the modern means to treat cancer, and poor people were often left to themselves to ''deal with the problem''.

1948?!?!?!? Don't you think it's time to get over it already? It's not like they just chucked her out in the snow.
Even in the 60's there wasn't much anyone knew to do...no matter how much insurance they had. Insurance wasn't the problem.

Even today with health insurance, the treatment they give (slash, burn, and poison) will kill you.

You need to look outside the system which means health insurance is meaningless - you will need to pay for your treatment of choice yourself.

There is an entire spectrum of alternative treatments; don't ask me which one is certain to work.

A search on this site will find many of them.

they die most of the time nowadays anyhow. they're just kept alive long enough to bill their survivors around $500k.

We all die.

Every single one of us -- dies.

None get out alive.

In those days the wealthy got treatment, the poor didn't. Simple as that.

Whether the treatment worked or not is a different question.

Now pretty much anyone can get treatment (if they can get to a metropolitan area) and the treatments are better. I don't mind chipping in a few bucks to help pay for some indigent old bag's treatment. I may need help myself someday. hf

It was SIXTY-TWO YEARS AGO! I've had DOZENS of relatives die in the last 62 years. We all have. Did you even bother to read the last paragraph or were you too gleeful at the prospect of bitching at me? What was the POINT of this thread EXCEPT to troll for sympathy? I'm one of the first people to respond when people have trouble NOW (or recently), but I won't respond like a robot when they're trolling.

Both my parents died of cancer one quickly one slowly. Both had very good insurance.

The only thing insurance buys you is lots of pain killers and some time. IMO

Shit happens OP and nobody owes you a fucking thing...
Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

when you rob Paul to give to Peter ... ... ... you will always get Peters support!

Re: My great-grandmother died of cancer before they had health insurance
On the 2nd of March 1896, my Great Great Grandparents, lost their little girl, Genoveva, she was 1yr, 10 months and 19 days old...cause of death was pneumonia.

My GG grandparents had another little girl, who was only 16 day old when her sister died. On the 5th of April 1897, that baby girl, Eladia, would also die. Aged 1yr 1 month and 16 days....cause of death, also pneumonia.

When I found the death registrations for these two babies...man it was surreal. I couldn't imagine losing one baby, let alone two, barely a year apart.

But that's just it, shit happened, in every family. My story is not unique and neither is yours.

People dropped like flies, from seemingly benign illnesses we now can easily treat.
