If you were a history teacher, what would you teach ?

I would teach them about the Vikings - those fierce Norse warriors who have no fear.

Forgot to mention; 3th year highschool.

Just make the free time open discussion. I'm sure they have questions. Let the kids lead.

I would teach them about the importance of knowing your history, as the mistakes of the past will be made over and over if we do not learn from them.

It is a history class, but maybe your friend could teach this:

When expressed as figures, the last two letters of the written word are added to the ordinal number:

* twenty-sixth = 26th

Nothing about alternative history ? like pyramids not build by Egyptians, or Sumerians knowledge of the stars/planets, or civilisations that existed before ours ?

I had a high school teacher teach the basics of the book of Daniel chapter 2. The four empire from Babylon to Rome. She never mentioned the Bible. Looking back on it 25 years later she was teaching biblical prophecy.

I'd never work there to begin with. Can't lie so much, but i'd probably teach more recent ww2 history according to internet research.

I think I would like to teach about the Middle ages also the enlightnement

We had a great teacher here during high school, he had the guts to say "now , page x to page y, this is what I'm supposed to teach you, but that's crap, let me tell you all about it" and then he was talking for the rest of the hour, and we were listening.
His story was not really a lot different from the books, but he took care to compile a lot of updates on the facts he had to teach about.

The main effect of this was that we knew early that history is rigged and if we want to know more we have to do some research ourselves.

Perhaps this is the most important thing for a history teacher, to let the kids know that the books are not sources for the ultimate truth.

Of course it could.Abit like teaching that the Lord of the Rings is history or creationism in science.

I'd delve deeper into the Enlightenment period, maybe inspire some kid..

I agree with this. I had a social studies teacher in high school that actually made learning interesting. He explained things the way he was suppose to by the schools standards, but also gave his opinions, and listened to ours.

real history.......... and i would get canned before the 4 hours was up.
