Remember when grandparents and great-grandparents stated that they only had an 8th grade education? Well, check this out. Could any of us have passed the 8th grade in 1895?

This is the eighth-grade final exam from 1895 in Salina , Kansas , USA . It was taken from the original document on file at the Smokey Valley Genealogical Society and Library in Salina , and reprinted by the Salina Journal.

They didn't have computers, or the internet, or phones, or cars, or TV, or any way of accessing real news, so they had to memorize and carry around static and meaningless info in their brains..

You do not know how they did on that exam. Eighth grade tests now are even harder. In TX they test 6 hours a day for four day in a row, that is not even the final. That is just the mandatory statewide test.
The stuff I saw my kid practice two years ago, and do well, totally floored me. Glad I was not taking it.
