Aretha Franklin was in good spirits and resting comfortably following successful surgery today in Detroit, according to her cousin Brenda Corbett.
The exact nature of Franklin's illness or where the medical procedure took place was not revealed. But in November, Franklin's publicist announced that Franklin, 68, had canceled all her performances through May.
"She's doing really really good," Corbett said this afternoon about 4 p.m.
Corbett said the medical procedure took place about 5 a.m. today at a Detroit hospital, although she refused to say which one.
Corbett also said she did not know how long Franklin will remain hospitalized.
In a statement released today to the Associated Press, the Queen of Soul says: “God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country.”
