Massive Swarm of Locusts in Australia? Mass Evacuations?
I just read this on UbAlert... SYDNEY -- Floods Hit Australia's Eastern States with Damages Worth Billions of Dollars. Following years of drought, Australia's eastern states has been hammered by torrential rains, along with a massive swarm of locusts, prompting mass evacuations.

Wholly Cow! Is this true? 1dunno1

I can't beleive you fellow aussies don't even know whats going on in your own backyard!

The voracious insects crossed the Murray River, south of Swan Hill, yesterday in swarms stretching up to 25km wide, according to the Department of Primary Industries.

UPDATE 11:47am: MILLIONS of locusts which forced the closure of today's Donald races in Victoria's north are heading south.

Re: Massive Swarm of Locusts in Australia? Mass Evacuations?
in melbourne australia.

there are no mass evacuations. There perhaps were some minor evacuations where one river burst its bank, but not that serious. floods are pretty normal in australia after drought - nothing like what happened with hurricane katrina.

as for locusts, the news and our "locus controller" keep promising us locusts in melbourne, and our parks are at risk etc etc but nothing of any substance yet. even if they come, they are not going to lead to mass evacuations. They may reduce crop yields (as will the rain will reduce yields), but most likely the yields will be higher than last year.

there is a bit of torrential rain forecast for tomorrow, which should be interesting - but perhaps only 50 to 200mm (not sure what that is in america speak inches, perhaps 4 to 13 inches?). Ground is wet, so it will lead to floods, which will lead to minor evacuations of some small towns on some rivers, but nothing serious.

its good to see some rain after drought.

I'm not in a flood zone being 230 mtrs above sea levels. The rain isn't at monsoon levels, but it's a lot for where we live, don't forget we have just come out of 7 years of drought. Haven't heard anything about locusts, but they aren't an unheard thing in Aus at this time of year. I have noticed hardly any christmas beetles this year.... and no cicadas. It must be due to the rain

No New World Order, only a New World of Brotherhood and Unity.

'The workers have to rebel against their masters, and to become masters of themselves. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains'

Education is a RIGHT, NOT a privilege

No one deserves privileges, we ALL deserve rights! A privilege means that some one is better than you. Which is NOT CORRECT. We ALL breath the same air, we ALL share the same Earth. ONLY Brotherhood and Unity

We ALL bleed RED.
