Locust Bisque

1 gallon locust shells
2 onions, roughly chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 celery stalk
2 carrots
1/2 tsp. powdered mace
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup whipping cream

Put all ingredients except whipping cream into a large stew pot, and fill with water. Bring to the boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 3 hours. Process in blender or food processor in batches, and strain before returning to clean pot. Add whipping cream, being sure not to allow it to boil.

Serve with animal crackers.

This recipe was prepared especially for Louise's brother, Steve Ripley, who always loved locust shells.

Serves 6.

I can't beleive you fellow aussies don't even know whats going on in your own backyard!

The voracious insects crossed the Murray River, south of Swan Hill, yesterday in swarms stretching up to 25km wide, according to the Department of Primary Industries.

UPDATE 11:47am: MILLIONS of locusts which forced the closure of today's Donald races in Victoria's north are heading south.

The article reports TRILLIONS of locusts as well...

TRILLIONS!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1126493

yeah, um, 25 ks stretches of swarm IS what locust swarms are.ON the move, eating, eventually they will fly outn to sea on the winds and become fishfood, truly, this IS what happens, trillions is normal, we are a big country, lots of locusts laid eggs, over a vast area, hence, massive swarms, totally and completely NORMAL.Huge by our standards keeping in mind the damage to crops etc but biologicaly normal.
