Stansberry Research: Collapse of Our Money & Hyper Inflation I think he's on target. He's discussing hyperinflation and the destruction of the USD as the world's reserve currency, and how the US will pretty much fall apart when it goes bust. He's sourced his stuff, he's got the charts to show what he's talking about, and he's done the work. Just wish he wasn't selling a newsletter that I can't afford. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1186234I think he's right. The USD is falling out of favor as the reserve currency. I live in a huge suburban community, where big families drive big cars around. The minute gas goes up, businesses will go under because nobody will be driving those huge cars unless they have to. Restaurants and stores that are already suffering will go into death rattle. Then they will devalue the USD further, ostensibly to help people in debt but it will just make the poor poorer. That's when you want to stay away from the poor neighborhoods. But the main thing that stuck with me from the video is that government will take unprecedented measures to save itself, and fuck us all over in the process. Like he says, they are already doing this. You'll notice that before they do something drastic, they seed the media for a while and let people get used to it, so that when it happens people are expecting it. |

Stansberry Research: Collapse of Our Money & Hyper Inflation He says the USD will soon not be the world reserve currency. He then strikes a parallel with the British Sterling losing that status in the 1970s. Learn about Britian's 'Winter of Discontent' which was a direct result of this. The government had to devalue their currency by 14% overnight. There were huge electricity shortages which resulted in business being allowed to be open only 3 days/week. Television stations turned off at 1030 pm. Inflation went up to 27%. Everything was much more expensive. Now, all the other countries want to buy oil in something other than the USD now. 46 states have huge deficits for 2011, but no more fed money to help. China is buying less debt than they were. The US was always able to survive debt by simply printing more money, but soon no one will buy our debt. Then we will have DOOM. (This is about 10% of the long speech) Answer: Creating local currencies which are actually legal. |

Stansberry Research: Collapse of Our Money & Hyper Inflation Oh please this is nothing more then a conservative political ad in disguise. Don't waste your time! As usual the conservatives have no real solution or plan so they are doing whet the do best playing of peoples fears. Its another the 'Sky is falling your way of life will end and only we have the solution. Unfortunately for them the parallels they draw are night and day. He lost any shred of credibility when he insinuated that Fannie and Freddi were responsible for the Mortgage crisis. The only thing Freddi and Fanny were were scape goats the conservatives used to cover their own failures. The fact is Fannie and Freddi actually only held 15 percent of all the failed mortgages. On the other hand commercial investment banks held 85 percent of the failed mortgages, Mortgages that didn't even meet Freddi and Fanny guidelines. What conservatives and commercial banks don't want you to know is that over 80 percent of all their failed mortgages were held by highly leveraged investment speculators who owned more then one investment property and therefore did not qualify for Freddi and Fanni backed loans. By the way he also further damages his credibility when he claims that in 2009 Freddy and Fanny started to guarantee loans WHAT !!!! That all Freddy and Fanny have ever done!! I know he must know better! This only leaves one option, he's purposely lying and hoping you don't know any better. Furthermore we don't pay foreign debt in actual physical dollars. Very rarely does real paper dollars actual change hands. Just like domestic banking International banking is mostly done on computer balance sheets. Do you actually believe physical cash changes hands when you pay your mortgage? No the banks simply adjust there respective balance sheets to reflect the trasaction. The fact that we print money is insignificant. There has never been enough physical cash in circulation to cover everyones savings let alone all our foreign debt.. So his claim about printing more money to hide debt is simply another bold face lie. If every US citizen went to their bank and emptied their accounts there wouldn't be enough physical cash dollars in the whole world to actually cover it. Most of our monetary transactions are on paper therefore printing more money to cover foreign debts is an fanciful lie. |

Stansberry Research: Collapse of Our Money & Hyper Inflation This IS quite interesting and it doers appear to be spot on in the assumptions it makes. That is fromwhat I have seen of it, As another poster said " it is long" People SHOULD be prepared for whatever. Not sayn you need a bunker but there are items in every home which should be stored and rotated as mandated by the expiration of those items. I'm kinda out of words on this but the implications are very clear that the worst IS yet to come. BTW I gave this 5 stars OP Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. You know that saying in finance, something along the lines of "there's dumb money and there's smart money"? Well I'm starting to think that the majority of people responding to this thread are dumb money (btw, this includes me). If we all think that the USD is going to collapse, and blah blah blah..basically all the things that make sense based on the feds current actions of acquiring way too much debt...well you know what I think the opposite might just happen, i.e. the USD won't collapse and the U.S. will be just fine. These doom sayers, many of whom I've listened too were right in 2008. But they were wrong for most of 2009 and the majority of 2010. Reminds me of that saying, "a broken clock is right twice a day" Betting or preparing for the collapse of the U.S. just seems like a really really really long shot.. ..anyways who knows..these are just my random ramblings... |

Stansberry Research: Collapse of Our Money & Hyper Inflation I watch CNBC every day and guys like Santali are always suggesting commodity prices will soar and there will be a "day of reckoning coming". While I see future problems ahead, I would suggest this guy is overstating the problem. He claims he predicted all these problems in the past. Question: How many other problems did you predict that did not occur? It’s easy to predict doom, doom, doom and then when a few things go wrong you say “yeah, I told you that was going to happen”. But who goes back and checks all the other predictions that did not come true. What I expect to happen? Yes, commodities will go higher. This already has happened. Oil, sugar, cotton, gold, silver, agriculture, etc. will go up. What he misses is that a new equilibrium will be achieved. Just like when Oil went up a lot last time it stabilized and demand dropped. People finally said “Ohh, maybe I should not drive a Lincoln Nav or Hummer H2”. Let’s take Ag prices, there is a lot of land which is being subsidized to NOT BE USED. If Ag prices hold higher then farmer will of course start using this land to produce more. This will prevent Ag prices from going too high. Oil too, OPEC knows the demand curve is not inelastic. They won’t let prices go too crazy on us unless they start running out of oil -- guess we better open up Deep Water Horizon then ;-) Then let’s consider his world reserve currency idea. Europe is in a bigger mess than the USA. Greece, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Romania, and Ireland are all bringing down the Euro. The Euro has fallen from the 1.4’s to the 1.3’s in the last year. China locks to the dollar. India and Brazil have much worse inflation than us. So really, where are you going to go with your money? You want a good investment idea: Stick with stocks through most of 2011. I suggest financial stocks, mobile internet stocks, and cyclical recovery stocks. Then rotate into real estate. We will likely hit the real estate bottom in summer of 2011. For my home city, the case-schiller home price index has already dropped below the historical trend line from 1980 – 1999. The 2000 + time period shows a big bubble forming and popping. With the Oct 2010 data in the chart its already a few percent below the trend line. A good correction will take us 10% below the trend line and then start a real sustained recovery. The quantities easing (QE2) will only help this as the inflation rate heads up to 3-5% (yes, not nice but you have to choose your battles) will start to push up home prices. If you cannot afford to buy a house, you can buy stock in a REIT (real estate investment trust). I would suggest the buying is the best option. If you already have a house look for an rental property to buy. If inflation pushes up rates after real estate gets going, then rental rates will start moving up nicely. |
