There once were great writers of great threads on this forum. Where has the semi-colon gone?

Not many people know how to use a semi-colon; that's why you never see them.

Correction: "You're gay."

(btw, OP: do quotation marks go after the sentence punctuation or before it. The Merriam-Webster dictionary points out that the closing quotation mark always follows the punctuation at the end of the sentence. Personally, I swing both ways. What is your opinion on the matter?)

I am a huge fan of semi-colons. They are useful for separating a list of words or phrases. Also, they can be used in the place of a period or a conjunction when two sentences are closely related to each other.

While on this subject, please allow me to vent:

The correct way to use the word "however" in many instances is like this:

"The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain; however, it also rains in Denmark."

Although it may look awkward, ending it with the closing punctuation within the quotation is the proper method.

It was perforated by one of the many homos.

You speak with authority but offer no statistics, which are known to be the only arbiter of truth. How do we take this?
