Name 25 Old Testament Bible Prophecies That Can Scientifically/Historically Be Proven False (and I'll reject the Bible)
Forget all the other stuff that can be written off as "metaphor" or parables, or what have you. Forget the New Testament and the Messianic Prophecies.

Don't give me little stuff like numbers games or anything (like being promised to have descendants as great as the number of stars in the sky - that's actually a vague use of terminology that could only mean a few thousand depending on how one is viewing and/or numbering the stars). Give me 25 whoppers!

All those prophecies in the Bible... If it is false there have to be at least 25 false prophecies that can be proven to have never been fulfilled (or even impossible to ever fulfill) that CAN NOT be brushed off as something that COULD occur later, or that it would take a far stretch to get around by claiming it is referring to something else.

Hundreds of prophecies (some say thousands)... All I want is 25 verifiably FALSE ones (from the Torah is even better - extra points if they are from the Torah - you destroy the first five books and THE LAW, and every thing falls like dominoes, especially if you check into the Hebrew wording before thinking you understand the passage).

I want stuff like such and such a nation was supposed to be destroyed forever and wasn't or isn't, prophetic contradictions, rivers supposed to be dried up that have been proven never to have, etc.

Those that give references or links to such evidence in their effort to convert me from my evil belief in the Holy Bible get a biscuit for extra hard work!

I am told the biggest thing that the Bible has going for it is that it is a prophetic book which can not be denied. Well, even if it is a prophetic book it can be denied by those who don't want to believe it, and I do believe it, so I won't settle for less than undeniable EVIDENCE that the prophecies of the Bible are FALSE PROPHECIES. If the prophecies of the Bible are false (and especially if they come out of the foundational books - the Torah) then I will not believe that the Bible is a truly prophetic book, which means (by its own admission) that it is also then not a book from God, but a book of false prophecy made by false prophets (extra points for the first five books of the bible, the Torah, cause then its freak'in Moses who is the false prophet!)

One of the measures used for canonization is Prophecy. If you prove the prophecy is false, you prove the prophet is false, and also the entire book. It really only takes ONE, but since there's so many prophecies 25 is my magic number.

Give me 25 and I'll reject the Bible and my faith right here!

Then don't. I could honestly care less what you believe. I am asking those who feel it is their duty to school me on my beliefs to do so. In fact, I AM BEGGING them....

I really don't care what you want to believe in but since you
asked here's 100 of them:
[link to www.freethinkersbooks.com]
 Quoting: DrPostman

I'll take it that means that you don't know of any yourself (which means you have no actual knowledge of whether or not what that link states is true or false). Also, most of those prophecies are NT (I'm asking for Old Testament). If I were a Christian I might be worried about the NT and the supposed Messianic Prophecies in the OT, but I'm not coming at this from the angle of one religion or the other. I'm asking about OT prophecies as far as the prophetic quality of the OT is concerned.

BTW, thanks for the link, but I already Googled this before asking, so I've read them all and most contain trivial things, IMO which makes the lists enormous and filled with stuff that COULD BE explained away or even rebuked as misinterpretations or ignorance concerning the difference in translation (many of these links just go after the KJV or English translations and that shows the authors really have no clue what they are talking about).

No it means that somebody didn't want to list them for you.

If you are questioning your faith and the bible then YOU need to address that, do the research and find and read the arguments.

If you are not questioning your faith/the bible, then don't goad others to harp on you and tell you what is wrong with both of those.

That's pretty shallow and dumb at the same time. If there is one prophecy in the bible that can be proven false, then you can't trust any of it. Would it really take 25 for it to sink in for you?

I believe the Bible 100%. But if any part of it could be proven false I wouldn't. Most anti biblical claims made on here address interpretations or ideas shared by religious groups and not the bible. You may be a le to disprove someone interpretation of a prophecy or passage but you can't disprove the bible.

Isaiah 19:5-7:

"And the waters of the Nile will be dried up, and the river will be parched and dry; and its canal will become foul, and the branches of Egypt's Nile will diminish and dry up, reeds and rushes will rot away. There will be bare places by the Nile, on the brink of the Nile, and all that is sown by the Nile will dry up, be driven away, and be no more.

Fail.

Isaiah 17

1The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

2The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

Fail. Damascus still stands.

Isaiah 7

1And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.

2And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.

3Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shearjashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field;

4And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.

5Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,

6Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:

7Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

Fail. II Chronicles 28:1, 5-6 Ahaz was 20 years old when he began his reign... (AKA Syria and Pekah did conquer Judah!)

Ezekiel 26:7-14

"For thus says the Lord: "Behold I will bring upon Tyre from the north Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, king of kings, with horses and chariots, and with horsemen and a hosts of many soldiers. He will slay with the sword your daughters on the mainland; he will set up a siege wall against you. He will direct the shock of his battering rams against your walls, and with his axes he will break down your towers...With the hoofs of his horses he will trample all your streets; he will slay your people with the sword and your mighty pillar will fall to the ground...they will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses... I will make you a bare rock... you shall never be rebuilt, for I have spoken," says the Lord God."

Fail. After a siege of thirteen years, until 573BC, Nebuchadnezzar lifted his siege on Tyre and had to arrive at a compromised agreement. Thus Nebuchadnezzar did not destroy Tyre. Alexander the Great destroyed Tyre, 240 years later. And furthermore, despite the prophet, the city of Tyre was eventually rebuilt.

Ezekiel 29:8-12

...thus says the Lord God. And the land of Egypt shall be desolation and a waste...no foot of man shall pass through it and no foot of beast shall past through it; it shall be uninhabited for forty years. And I will make the city of Egypt desolation in the midst of desolated countries; and her cities shall be desolated forty years... I will scatter Egyptian among the nations, and disperse them through the countries.

Fail. 1. Egypt was never laid desolate/wasted. 2. Men and people have always walked through it. 3. There has never been a moment in known history when Egypt was uninhabited. 4. Egypt has never been desolated, nor surrounded by desolated people. 5. Its cities have never been desolated for any period of time. 6. Where was the Egyptian Diaspora?

Ezekiel 29:20 I have given him [Nebuchadnezzar] the land of Egypt as his recompense for which he has labored, because they worked for me, says the Lord God.

Fail.

Jeremiah 33:17-18 (King James Version)

17For thus saith the LORD; David shall never want [lack] a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel;

18Neither shall the priests the Levites want [lack] a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.

Fail. David's descendants after the Exile (ca. 587-538 BCE) never were restored to the throne. In 70 CE the Romans destroyed the Temple. In 135 CE the Romans put down the Bar Kochba rebellion and this time destroyed Jerusalem carrying off into captivity her people. The Levitical priests who were to be in God's presence performing their duties, that is the feeding of God, "for ever," never again offered burnt sacrifices and meal offerings.

Jeremiah 25:11-13 (King James Version)

11And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

12And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

13And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.

Jeremiah 29:10 (King James Version)

10For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

Jeremiah 51:11 (King James Version)

Fail. The Jews would serve the Babylonians as slaves for 70 years, then Babylon would be destroyed. It didn't happen.

Jeremiah 50:18-20 (King James Version)

18Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

19And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.

20In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.

Fail. After the fall of Babylon (which didn't happen), there would be "no more iniquity" in those lands.

Uh huh. So you are saying that if just ONE prophecy in ONE book of the Bible were proven false you'd throw the whole Bible in the trash can? If so, you have no idea what you believe in, for you don't even know exactly what makes a book part of the canon. Just because ONE book might not belong in the canon doesn't necessarily mean the remainder of the books are false.

Here is one NOT YET FULFILLED

<< Zechariah 12 >>
King James Version
1The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.

2Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. 3And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. 4In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness. 5And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God.

6In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem. 7The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah. 8In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them. 9And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

10And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. 11In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon. 12And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart; 13The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart; 14All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.

However, I have studied the scriptures for many years both as a skeptic at first, then later as a seeker, and now as a believer, and I can assure that there is no failed prophecy in the scriptures.

What many put forth as failed prophecy is in fact their failed understanding. Most, if not all, of those who deny the scriptures are those who have never truly studied the Word and given effort to understand. The Bible is 100% accurate in all the prophecy, you just must have a love for the Truth and true desire to know the Word.

This bozo was given 100 reasons and comes up with excuses already and then argues with another believer. WTF. He should come up with one prophesy that was proven true without personal interpretation involved, just cold hard facts.

No. Just ONE book would be proven to not belong recognized as the infallible Word of God. It would only mean the book didn't belong in the Canon and the handful of men who believed it belonged there "goofed" when they chose it. Are you even aware that Revelation was debated over for hundred of years before it was included in the Canon? Did you know that Martin Luther had serious doubts about whether or not certain books even belonged in the Canon because he didn't believe they sounded like the inspired Word of God?

However, I have studied the scriptures for many years both as a skeptic at first, then later as a seeker, and now as a believer, and I can assure that there is no failed prophecy in the scriptures.

Good for you. I applaud your hunger for knowledge and truth. It is all I seek.

What many put forth as failed prophecy is in fact their failed understanding.

I would have to agree with you here. In fact, most of what is put forth is either lies, misinformation, misunderstanding, or outright ignorance of the facts. Many are just trying to bash Christianity and so they often include theology and tradition in their arguments (as if 9/10ths of any of that stuff is even in the Bible, let alone in the Bible in plain language without debate). Frankly, all the BS that is out there is, IMO, a hindrance to those who may actually have a legitimate argument. That's actually something I am hoping to open up in this thread. By throwing out all the theology and the "little" things that could be interpreted in different ways and cutting straight to the MEAT I am hoping to actually get some information to look into and think about, information from "the other side." Someone here already posted about 8 or so that I intend to honestly check out and see if the historical and/or scientific data as well as the original language passages actually hold up to the claims. Then I just need 17 more!

Most, if not all, of those who deny the scriptures are those who have never truly studied the Word and given effort to understand. The Bible is 100% accurate in all the prophecy, you just must have a love for the Truth and true desire to know the Word.

Uh huh. So allow me to run this down then...

What is truth?

Truth is God, Jesus, the Word of God, blah, blah, blah.

How do we know that the God of the Bible exists or that the Word of God is true?

The Bible says so.

I see. So, the Bible is the truth because the Bible says so! Now, let's restate your last sentence.

The Bible is 100% accurate in all the prophecy, you just must have a love for the Truth and true desire to know the Word.

The Bible is 100% accurate in all the prophecy, you just must have a love for the Bible and true desire to know the Bible [to know its 100% accurate cause it says so].

The Bible is 100% accurate in all the prophecy, you just must have a love for the Truth and true desire to know the Word.

WTF. He should come up with one prophesy that was proven true without personal interpretation involved, just cold hard facts.

Here's TWO for ya.

Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues. On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

This means if someone could name 24 "prophecies that can scientifically/historically be proven false" then you feel safe and will continue believing but not if someone names 25?

That's a really strange kind of believe. Sound like if quantity is more important for you than quality.

Are you a hardcore believer? Then only one false proven prophecy must destroy your believe?

Or are you a very unsure believer? Then it's pointless how much prophecies could be proven wrong.

Which version you want the disputes about? The king James, The Latin Vulgate or other simplified ones for the brainless Christ zombies to recite and spew forth its' contained rhetoric to the "unbelievers".

Besides trying to dispute anything religious is a simple act of stupidity since both the new testament and the old testament were written in 2 separate languages one in Hebrew the other Greek so the translation can very given to those who went about doing the translations. Nothing man has ever touched hasn't been tainted by a him even this shows missing books and deleted sections across the time span given this books longevity.

Another floating point would be the person who interprets the meaning of each blurb of rhetoric from it. There are no rules or guidelines in which to base a true right or wrong stance as to how this thing can be held accountable for its' contents based on what one "thinks" is a prophecy versus the actual meaning of the text.

So in effect your question is automatically null and voided by grounds of no set guidelines or reasoning for the meaning and contents of said book. hf hf

Actually, I'm fairly confident 24 of them will be open to interpretation, so I'm hoping that just ONE will be something I can work with.

I really don't care what you want to believe in but since you
asked here's 100 of them:

I'll take it that means that you don't know of any yourself (which means you have no actual knowledge of whether or not what that link states is true or false). Also, most of those prophecies are NT (I'm asking for Old Testament). If I were a Christian I might be worried about the NT and the supposed Messianic Prophecies in the OT, but I'm not coming at this from the angle of one religion or the other. I'm asking about OT prophecies as far as the prophetic quality of the OT is concerned.

No it means that somebody didn't want to list them for you.

In other words, you don't know of any such false prophecies either.

Oh please! I'm not some KJV-Only kook. I know all about textual criticism, historicity, church history, canonization, etc. Don't feed me this line. My thread is INTENTIONALLY not directed towards this. It is dealing only with PROPHECY, and unless you would care to show a large number of prophecies that have been proven tainted in substance (I doubt you are aware of any) then you are leading the thread off track and frankly barking up the wrong tree.

As far as interpretation goes... Biblical interpretation is a branch of THEOLOGY. I'm not discussing theology. I'm discussing PROPHECY. So as far as interpretation and reasoning goes, if you don't know what prophecy is when you see it then I guess you can't answer any of my questions then, can you?

What to use? Can't you read? I said OT, preferably Torah, and checked out against the original Hebrew.
