He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." - John 8:44 "Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?" -Matthew 23:33 Enraged at Yahshua, The Jewish elders and leaders, the Pharisees, sought to kill him. "After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him." -John 7:1 You really have no idea what Jesus is like, do you? I'm not concerned with Arafat. . .note that my initial response was regarding the UN's alleged "creation" of Palestinians. The real problem behind all this is that largely, Christians are OK with "Jewish" treatment of people who were living in the region for centuries. A hundred years ago, the area was a bunch of unwalled villages, dwelling in safety. Then there came an invasion, and we Christians have been supporting and applauding the invaders ever since, because we errantly judge by the label those invaders wear instead of by their fruits. It's as if we suddenly forget where Christ told Israel, right to their faces, in the hills of Jerusalem, to "love your neighbors" and "love your enemies" and "bless those who curse you" and "consider the least of these", etc. This is a pretty serious problem. |

Unless I misunderstood a history lesson, I think the UN created modern Israel in 1948 and the modern Palestinian Authority more recently. But your point is well taken, at least by me. I have close friends who work with both Israelis and Palestinians, and from listening to them, I think I am rather well educated on the subject. As for following Jesus' directions to "bless those who curse you," we get a lot of practice with that on some of Watcher's threads! Thank you for your posts! Anonymous Coward User ID: 957971 United Kingdom 12/26/2010 05:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | palestine comes from the word phillistine, meaning displaced peoples. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 955960The term Palestine is derived from Greek: Παλαιστινη/Latin: Palaestina, which refers to the biblical Philistines, a people of Aegean origin who settled in the southern coastal plains of Canaan, in the 12th century BC, their territory being named Philistia. After crushing Bar Kochba's revolt in 132-135, the Romans applied the name to the entire region that had formerly included Iudaea Province,[1] in an attempt to suppress Jewish national feelings.[2][3] The Arabic toponym Filasteen (Arabic: فلسطين‎) is also derived from the Latin name. "The name Palestine, which the Romans had bestowed on the conquered and subjugated land of Judea, had been retained for a time by the Arab conquerors to designate an administrative subdivision of their Syrian province." The name had disappeared from the region prior to the arrival of the Crusaders. The term was rediscovered in Europe at the time of the Renaissance and used to refer to what "European Christians ... previously called the Holy Land." "The name was not used officially, and had no precise territorial definition until it was adopted by the British to designate the area which they acquired by conquest at the end of World War I and ruled under mandate from the League of Nations."[4] [link to en.wikipedia.org] |
