Ya' know what? I managed to survive without wearing a helmet when I was riding my bike, roller skating, skiing, playing football, etc... I also survived a whole bunch of other things that I did not wear any kind of safety gear for. I've driven in the snow, on ice... even when the roads were closed. Now, 2 inches of snow (which is all we got) required a "snow emergency" to be called where I live. Philly got a little more, but for cryin' out friggin' loud! When I was a kid, the blizzard of '77 hit and buried us under almost 4 feet of snow, and I don't remember a "snow emergency" being called. In fact, I remember my dad going to work. Things were getting bad before 9/11, but since it's just been going downhill a lot faster. It's a damned good thing we developed submarines in the 20th century, because we sure as hell wouldn't try something that dangerous now. Makes me sick. |
