The railroad I currently work for had recently removed ms windows from the train dispatching system and replaced it with linux.

Years ago, but still...its a Gov facility(ies) and need to e controlled by a "high group" or central control, I would assume.

Im sure whatever they chose to replace it with has a door somewhere, too.

I doubt if Russia (and China for that matter) ever paid for their Microsoft products. Microsoft were happy for their software to be globally ubiquitous, so they could retain market domination in capitalist countries.

Considering companies only generally use basic office suites, and file sharing, a switch to Linux and Open Office is a no-briner especially when done by order. It's a very low cost option if rolled out in a careful manor. I am surprised it hasn't happen sooner.

Microsoft is becoming an irrelevance, the O/S is becoming part of the gadget, as in Apple products and smart phones. No hardware manufacturers like having Microsoft dabbling in their business, controlling specifications and charging a license fee for something that costs essentially nothing once it has been developed.

Russia is so poor they cant afford Windows 7 upgrades. Believe me when i say this has nothing to do with hacking, windows is stable and solid in the correct hands and run with the correct hardware.

All you linux heads have been lied to im afraid. Linux is open source which means that all the code for it is open source. Its not hard to work out what happens when all your coding is available to the world. Half the attacks on linux go unnoticed because you cant tell when its being attacked.

Anyone with half a brain wouldn't use Microsoft. Linux is much safer than windows. When a Linux system is attacked it would 99% of the time only effect that user or group. The sooner windows finally dies out or goes open source the better.
