Thinking about moving out of California once I get back from Europe in May, I'll be spending the entire month there.

A friend is retiring to New Mexico and says she is going there because of its much slower pace.

I've been to Albuquerque but that's it, actually went through it on Interstate 40 on my way to Chicago and back.

Who here live in New Mexico and can you please state where
most people like to reside, how is the economy and home
prices, rentals, and overall lifestyles.

Thank you.

You might as well call it Mexico and consider it
part of Mexico. When traveling through New Mexico that is
all I saw on the highways in cars in rush hour.

Decent state. Lived here my whole life. Pretty good weather, distinct seasons. Economy is a little shaky, but show me a place it isn't.

Lots of culture, very diverse.

Santa Fe. Most expensive city in New Mexico. Houses started at $250k when I was there. ABQ is much cheaper, housing in NM is actually pretty reasonable outside of SF.

NM is laid back, true. Very pretty scenery. Effect of recession about average, less in the eastern part of the state where there is oil.

Crime is terrible - choose your prospective neighborhood carefully. I guess I was in NM for 3 years; in that time, I was robbed at gunpoint twice and had my car vandalized 4 times. It is legal in NM to carry a concealed weapon in your vehicle without a permit. Do so.

I ran a contracting business there for three years, in the
late 90's. At the time ABQ had 750,000 pop.

Taxes were triple compared to other states. HS dropout rate is over half of students. One person out of about 20 is a
functional literate.

Whatever was nice about New Mexico, was destroyed by illegals during the decade following the 90's.

Clinton moved in convicted felons from Puerto Rico for humanitarian reasons. Crime skyrocketed over the next
year.

No street is safe.

NE used to be pretty decent, but is now crime ridden like
the west side. (ABQ)

Over half of businesses are run under the table on a cash basis. All hispanic run outfits have forgery going on in the back rooms. Hispanic employees are complicit and provide blanks from state agencies, for all forms of ID.

I had an identity theft there that cops wouldn't even
touch as it was not important to them to investigate.

Bill Richardson has been a do nothing mex sympathizer.

If you are a criminal, you'll love New Mexico.
If not, you'll be vicitimized.

I lived there for several years.

New Mexico is a very have and have not culture. Most have very low paying jobs because this is about all you will find there unless you work in HIgh tech.

There are a lot of places that are gov high tech. that pay well but most of New Mexico is rural poor and difficult to find a well paying job.

If you move there I would recommend you get a job first and then move.

Hi. My wife have a 27 acre compound in a small village south east of Albuquerque about 40 miles in the mountains.
It is in our opinion a very nice place to live. The people are friendly, the taxes are low and the food is excelent.

As for the job market it depends what you do. There are several fortune 500 companies like Intel, HP, and there is always the Labs at Los Alamos and Sandia.

I truley believe you can't go wrong moving there.

Screw all the trolls and shills that have no idea what they say.

Forgot to say, we are armed to the teeth and have had no problem with crime, if you gnomesayin.

Also,

If you are hispanic you will do better. If you are not hispanic, you will find yourself in competition for low paying jobs that hire illegals.

If you have an IT degree and experience, you might do well to look in the gov high tech sector for jobs. THese pay very well.

If you dont have a degree and are a basic "worker" class, I would recommend not moving there.

Surprisingly, not.

The theory is that there's SO many top-secret defence facillities in NM that it's a "no-go" zone for such conflict. The Feds allow it to occur elsewhere, but drop the hammer on it happening in NM, because of "vested interests" in maintaining its security.

Name one state that has air tight voting laws? Here in AZ where you can't even get a DL without proof of legal status, illegals still find a way to get on the mail in ballots.

I think NM new Gov. might be making some changes to the DL for illegals in her state.

We spent a couple of months in Albuquerque in 1995. My son had developed hydrocephalus and we researched and found a chiropractor there who was able to relieve the pressure through cranial sacral therapy alone.
Our son is now a high school soccer star and fully recovered.
We had a great time in Albuquerque. They had lots of cheap motels with kitchenettes, but we stayed at the Route 66 hostel for the social life.
I don't know what it's like now, but we loved New Mexico in the 90's.

Come for a visit and make your own informed decisions.

I came here from Atlanta and just love it.

They say NM is the land of enchantment.

Come see and you will become enchanted too.

It is a very different way of life from back east or California.

The land is so beautiful and diverse.

I came for the sun and clear skies.

I came because it is a slower pace.

Check out places like the Pecos Valley,
Santa Fe, Corrales, Rio Rancho.

You can commune with nature here.

The mountains are awesome.

You can see the sky for miles and miles without
anything obstructing your view.

Out side of Albuquerque you can see millions of stars
at night.

NM is very big on farming/agriculture.

Corrales is a farming community. Many many people there have horses.

There are three cultures. The music is awesome, the art work is awesome.......the sunsets and rises are awesome....
and of course the food is to die for.
