Here is another angel...

... It goes back to the fight between Edison and Morgan on the control of the Edison Electric Company. Edison believed in an industrial model based on manufacturing. He insisted on DC for efficiency and for aspects related to local generation and local control of generation. Morgan wanted centrality and was fascinated by the prospects of using Tesla's (WH) AC generation and high voltage transformation to establish central monopoly. Edison lost to the bankers, Edison Electric became General Electric, and a few years later it was using tax payers money to monopolize distribution and was forcing the physical destruction of local DC generation, from farm wind generators to towns water dams. It also helped sell billions of short living light bulbs which can be made to last 100 times longer on DC. The overall loss of efficiency for DC is close to 40 percent even that most accept 15, but if we take into account the cost grid infrastructure and transformation it is much higher, in the hundreds. The nation and the world would have been much better if local DC generation would have stay the norm and dedicated AC transformation lines would have been built to satisfy demand for electricity as needed after local generation is maximized. The Enron's mentality was invented on Wall Street in Tesla's times and in the final analysis the high voltage national grid should have never been built. Public money and research should have been directed at local generation and the emphasis should have been on efficiency instead of building mammoth projects that have changed the way this planet look from space. If I am right we will see significant parts of the developing countries skipping the grid and adapting local DC generation just as they are skipping copper networks and adapting wireless. Thanks to wall street however US industry which provided local DC generation more than a century ago will have little to do with it and it is driven by Asia. Edison proved DC works and his DC lines still feed active subways and elevators in many places. Who said "kill all the lawyers?". Let's make it bankers...
