Feminism is about equality and freedom.

Equality per se, or equality in opportunity?

Equality in all levels.

Interesting. So, would you count me as a (third wave) feminist?

It would appear that you are you dear and that is all that matters.

Thank you, Nikki. Like you, I just gotta be me. And I'm not ashamed of it.

Even in physical strength? I'll admit there are a few exceptions, but this is not normal. Present company excluded, of course. Happy New Year, Nik!

Physical strengths aside, should all this equality be enforced with quotas, etc?

No. I had this debate in uni a lot...I took political science and sociology. Where there were quotas. It is my opinion that you are most qualified or you are not. Having breasts should NEVER be a factor. Sadly, it seems to be so! And justified by the inequality card. Sigh.....

Re: Let's Talk Feminism
To me Feminism, besides the defence of the womens rights is an exaltation of femininity, you got it girl you flaunt it ! because we are ladies and we rock!!!! rockon

Question: Are you an American in Spain, a proxy, or really a Spanish woman in Spain?

I'm curious.

Ill keep you guessing a while longer ;)

I'm just curious since Spain has always been a country where "male machismo" is prevalent. The men are typically very strong and outspoken. I've met many Spanish men, but not many Spanish women. I was wondering if the same could be said for them as well.

Traditionally, spanish speaking countries are a few years behind in this feminist movement... at least culturally-wise (is that even a word?)

depends on circumstances, work wise women are taking over more and more prominent jobs,

there are still pockets of male chauvinism, it depends alot imo on the socio-economical background and the educational levelof the persons involved

Are these pockets of male chauvinism divided by social caste and financial settings or more of a regional thing?

I know that even though Spain is a small country... one town could be a complete 180 of a town just a few miles away. Isn't it one of the most diverse countries out there in terms of people?

I'm just always amazed. My sister is actually dating a man whose family is from Sevilla (IIRC) and these people are definitely nice, but headstrong and their family ideals fall in line with the more traditional family. The head of the family is the father, but the mother does have a say in the business and in the family decisions.

It's an interesting dynamic because it blends 1950's with this century.

You could maybe find more chauvinism in Southern Spain but it depends on the personal background of the individuals involved.

D , I've been trying to figure out what to say to you about this, and I agree with GSF, how you CHOOSE to live your life is completely different than being coerced into situations you had no choices in, or were forced into.
I honestly feel i have no right to judge you for choices you make in who or how you love.
Consenting adults have the right to live how they wish as long as no harm comes to anyone involved.
With all that said, the photos you use as an avatar are provocative and striking, which to me is wonderful- I'm a photographer and see them as art.
There are others who could find them, in conjunction with some of your posts as indicative of the subjugation of women (specifically YOU).

Live your life as you choose and be happy, it's too damn short to be worried about pleasing anyone other than yourself and those you love.
 Quoting: Thoughts Faux Fodder

That is pretty much the philosophy we embrace. As for the subjugation of myself- it was freely entered into. And despite my upbringing, I have found myself happy in this unique life of mine.

Re: Let's Talk Feminism
So what would you say to a young woman who wants to get married and have a family and stay home to take care of her family, yet her own extended family looks down on her because of this? If her own extended family wants her to get a career and be "successful," but that is not what she wants?

Is that feminism still? Being able to make her own choice about what she wants to do with her life?

Yes. Also, 'successful' shouldnt only apply to a career. In my opinion at least hf
 Quoting: ~*~gsf~*~

So true. I am very successful in the role I have chosen. I don't want to "have it all", I wanted to have a family and do that as best I could. It worked.

'feminism' is completely hypocritical when it comes to women
it is a political form of opression and selective platform that picks and chooses what to defend.

example: when meg whitman was called a whore..where was the outcry from the feminist camp?

coincedently look at the declining male-everything is woosified

then look at youth and reality tv with outbursts temper tantrums and violence...young women act like spoiled brats.

i realize this is fragmented but i think some will get the gist.

How do you know thats not herself?

My grandmother served my grandfather in much the same way. She was 60 when he died and she never batted an eye at another man. In return he protected her and loved her and took care of her and etc and etc... he had a dominate personality she had a submissive personality...worked for almost 50 years until he died...and she went to her grave 25 years later still just as much in love with him as she was when she married him. Could I live like that? No. But I accept other women have different wants/needs.

hf Good for anyone who manages that in this hard world.
All "isms" aside, to me that is what counts, if you are happy and healthy then to hell with what anyone else thinks of your choices, they don't live your life, you do.
The goal of equality was to give women the choices to live as they chose as freely as men always have - and you seem to have done that.
Who can say it's right or wrong for you other than yourself?

Re: Let's Talk Feminism
Im pretty tired of women using the term feminist when feminazi might be much more appropriate. Real feminists want equality not superiority!

To me...it means being allowed to make our own choices for own lifestyle. Not what men want..nor what other women want.

And really, as far as Im concerned, they have fucked up an awful lot of shit for women men and their children ...contrary to original intent I assume!
