Re: I don't have a microwave
J-Rico, you can come cook for me anytime..

I use my microwave only for warming up my coffee. We don't use it to cook either. My boys are little chefs, they love to cook and make their messes.
I don't mind it, they are very good at it and cook me breakfast on the weekends-NO MICROWAVE

You let the coffee get cold!?!?!

redface

And I'll cook for ya sometime. cool2
 Quoting: J-Rico

Very cold when I am the only one drinking it.. I make a whole pot, so I warm it up by the cup when I want some later in the day.

To get the kids to stop using it, i do not buy them microwave quicky foods, and I also taped up an "X" across it for 2 months and told them it was broke. Can't get rid of it or i'll have a big hole above my stove...

Re: I don't have a microwave
We don't eat TV dinners here so we don't use it much either. We do eat canned soup sometimes when we are in a hurry, and use it for that. Otherwise, we mostly use it to zap our tea if we let it get cold, heat up a slice of home-made bread, or melt butter for cooking. I could easily do without it. My son pops popcorn but the rest of us can't stand microwave corn and use the air-popper instead.

Whenever I heat up soup, I just use a smaller pot.
I've done the same with tea.

My grandmother showed me how to make real green tea in a small pot and it's far better... but I can see how it can be convinient for something like that though.
 Quoting: J-Rico

We use the teapot on our stove to heat up the water and then steep it in a ceramic pot as is normal. But sometimes we set our cups down and it gets cold, so we zap it. I'm not sure that zapping actual tea leaves would be any good -- never tried it but it doesn't sound good. Actually, we probably shouldn't even rewarm our tea in the microwave because we use unprocessed honey and we probably lose any benefit we might have had from it - but we do it anyway. Love green tea and Earl Gray. :)

ONLY read the first three posts, but if not already posted, the story behind the microwave is this; Invented in Germany during WWII to make hot meals for troops on Russian front.

AFTER war, ALL those using the devices DIED of CANCER from the radiation.

Second fact: Even WATER MOLECULES that have plus and minus ends are CHANGED when you heat them with microwaves, AS IS ALL OTHER FOODSTUFF !

Learned this 4 years ago and promply brought our perfectly good one to the DUMP !

Only IDIOTS continue to use them, showing they neither READ nor COMPREHEND/ WHAT they read !

Shows the complete dumbing DOWN of the American population, IMHO, AND in FACT !

I do not have a microwave or a facebook account. I don't twitter or tweet except when trying to communicate with the birds on my property. I friend gave me a cell phone as he was tired of trying unsuccesfully to get in touch with me. I don't like it. I think it's a passing fad. Like indoor plumbing.

I recently ripped mine off the wall ....now need to install an exhaust system/hood....20's house....but life is much better...I too ate tons of micro food in college and now am repelled by it...I try to avoid at all costs...I also get why would you do that?! I think everyone should have a convection oven as well...you can heat a cold plated-dinner in it....Breville counter-top...worth the $260...

Re: I don't have a microwave
I lived for most of my adult life without a microwave. I just never bothered to buy one and lived without. I prefer doing as OP says and cooking traditional and heating things up on the stovetop or oven. I never ate frozen food so I didn't see the point in getting one. I also got strange responses from people when I would say that I didn't have a nuker. they acted like I was deprived and couldn't imagine how to survive without one.

The house I live in now came with a microwave. I rarely use but some other family members do like the convenience although I still prefer the traditional cooking and heating methods. Food just tastes better.

Re: I don't have a microwave
I have never lived with a microwave oven, not anyplace I have ever lived, in my whole life. Never had one and never had a roommate that had one. I am almost 50 years old.

Over the years I maybe used one a couple of times a year at work to heat something briefly, but hardly ever.

I have never cooked anything in one in my whole life. I can't understand why anyone ever would, but I don't go around announcing it either. I have a lot of weird dietary restrictions and stuff, it doesn't make for very interesting conversation.

I do not own a microwave oven, don't like having my food radiated.

Instead, I use a good quality toaster oven & I use it for my toast, to heat up left-overs, grilled cheese sandwiches, even cook a frozen dish directly from the freezer. You can use a toaster over to cook your pizza also & a whole host of other dishes.

I rarely use my big oven as its too costly to heat up that much space just for something that a toaster oven can do.

I have noticed that quite a number of pre-packedged foods, both dry and frozen now only come with instructions to be cooked in a microwave. I ignore this and cook it my own way.

You are so full of shit!

Early microwave ovens were huge and inefficient.

No fucking army would use them on a front line.

BTW radiation of energy is different than radioactive.

According to Kevin Trudeau in Natural Cures "they" don't want you to know about. On page 145 it states

"Do not eat anything that comes out of a microwave."

"Throw away your microwave. I believe that when you microwave anything it becomes energetically toxic to the body. Eating microwaved food on a regular basis (this includes food that is reheated) weakens your immune system and causes depression and anxiety.

I threw my nuker out the minute I finished this book!

But what I do use is a Convection Oven, toaster, broiler.
Same thing really, just hot air. No waves needed.

Funny you say that.
I had that SAME conversation with someone yesterday.

We were talking about the quality of brooms/mops/rakes.
It's not the same anymore.

My grandmother MADE mops and those things would last forever. These new ones just fall apart after 1 month.
