It’s quite likely that this phase change will be well underway within the coming half-century. •The overall effect of these technologies has been, and for nanotech and AI will be, immensely more beneficial than harmful. There are, however, pitfalls associated with any such major change. •The value of having foresight is that one can steer towards the benefits and away from the pitfalls, or be prepared to use the new capabilities to ameliorate bad effects. However, in order to do this effectively, one must study the technology in depth, actually understanding what the capabilities really are. •It has always been Foresight’s position that prompt development of capabilities by a responsible mainstream is the best defense against their inevitable development by others. •Unjustified alarmism about poorly-studied but spectacular dangers of future technologies is irresponsible and counterproductive. The alarmist sits at the root of a memetic chain letter, reaping near-term benefits from publicity, but the overall effect is to slow and warp development of beneficial capabilities. This condemns the vast majority of humanity to needless poverty, disease, and death. (www.foresight.org) THE ARROGANCE AND IGNORANCE OF MAN IS SIMPLY ASTOUNDING! B) Nonreplicating nanoweapons, similar to the tools of war today, that are manufactured in a factory and then used in battle. More on the risk of nanotechnology. The overwhelming message I get from reading about these potential threats is mankinds inability to govern himself without running the extreme risks of destroying the entire planet and all life. The arrogance found in the justifications for trying to unleash these technologies upon the world reveals severe flaws in the human mind - “we control” or “can control” whatever we want. Our science and our technology will not destroy us - it will “save us”. This unspecified “threat” and need of salvation is unspecified, but reveals mankind’s fear of the uncontrolled. Obviously then, technology will lead to a loss of freedom, liberty, autonomy and independence. This has always proven to be the case, even if the technology is “controlled”. More technology will be championed as “beneficial” for mankind, but the exchange, what we lost, won’t be publically perceived. It’s noted that it isn’t technology that is really the issue - but the nature of man. I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON! |

At 4:40pm I pulled over on hwy 160 to get a jacket out of the trunk. On the side of the road I saw 4 dead black birds in about a 20 foot radius. At the time, I thought these birds probably were in the road earlier picking at road kill and were struck by a truck or something. My point is, the birds found dead around the world so far have been in reasonably populated areas. I would imagine that an even greater number of bird deaths may be in remote areas and not yet documented. Even in the US there are vast remote areas where birds could fall and never be noticed as predators remove the evidence. Makes you wonder if the problem is not greater then currently stated...if I hadn't stopped at that point on the hwy, I never would have seen anything. What else may be unseen out there? |

This is what I've been thinking all along. There are many isolated, wooded, and water masses that birds could have died but has not been discovered yet. We only see what is literally on the road or somebody's yard. Also, there are so many ignorant sheep out there that have no idea what is going on and probably have found dead birds on their property and just shrugged it off. I'm sure there is numerous un reported cases. Great insight! |

Why wouldn't there be birds found struggling to survive among the dead ones? Certainly were in caused by impact that would be the case, as many birds survive impacts with windows etc, but may be injured or stunned. |

The fish die offs are interesting, don't get me wrong, but the majority of them are going to be blamed on La Nina and the cold weather patterns that have effected most of the world. If you look at the birds for instance, we know that the Arkansas and Louisiana birds died from blunt force trauma, (blood clots, issues with organs but no external cause, i.e hole where the bird was shot). In the case of Arkansas the official word is fireworks are to blame, in Louisiana, power lines, (because it occurred after New Years fireworks another explanation had to be found). So we should be focusing on looking for the following: 1. Any reported incidents of birds dieing from similar "blunt force trauma" before or after New Years. 2. Birds dieing of similar reasons in areas outside of ARK and LA. 3. Question what could have caused the blunt force trauma and/or instigated the birds behaving in a manner to have cause it themselves. 4. Other species of birds that are being effected. I think the East Coast Pelicans are a interesting story to follow, different location, species, timing, cause, etc. The other interesting incidents of note are the Swedish birds, Texas and to a lesser degree Kentucky, (since the birds had been dead a few days prior to finding them). Another interesting incident is the Whooping Cranes: [link to www.courier-journal.com] These birds were released in Oct, migrated through Indiana and Kentucky to Georgia, where they were found dead on Dec. 30.So they were under watch prior to Oct, released flew through the area(s) where other incidents occurred and then were found dead PRIOR to New Years fireworks. "Authorities consider the deaths of the rare birds suspicious because all three were found close to each other, he said. A predator would have normally taken just one, he added." In terms of causation if the birds sense of direction (i.e. EMP) was upset and they were crashing into things causing the damage, I would think this would be a massive worldwide event, just just smaller flocks of birds in a similar geographic area. If this is a result of New Years fireworks, indeed it should have similar events recorded in most major cities and towns of the world. If the events are specifically related to ARK, LA, TN, KY, etc then there may be a issue in that part of the world that is causing the birds to go crazy and crash into things or a nasty bio weapon that is destroying them from the inside out, or some unseen force that they are running into. At this time I cannot speculate what the cause is, but am interested in potential "similar" events in other areas, large or small, that have occurred prior to or after New Years fireworks. Ryan |
