Research this subject online. There are tons of compound bows that are pure shit.
Go on youtube and type in bowhunting, and watch what the hunters are using. Watch real people who hunt deer on youtube and look at what they are using, do not watch the bow reviews, those are just advertising bullshit.

if u have not used a bow b4 85 is way to heavy.ppl kill buffalo with 70.
60 pound will pass thro a deer ect with out a problem.
honest you will regret buying something to heavy.
if your new to archery go a 60 pound.you should be able to pick up a good brand bow 2007 2008 for $350 $400.

good question OP...i too am a newbie to bows and have been looking on ebay...hope we aren't bidding agaisnt each other LOL

Buy a bow from a shop, they can fit it to you properly, teach you how to use it. Quit buying shit online from China for a $15 discount from a local bowsmith. You will be happy you did buy it from a person in a shop, you can get it tuned from them, they will add accessories for you, let you try it out in an indoor range.

If you don't know what you are doing, how will you know your draw length?

i forgot to say you will need to know your draw length.what eye is dominant{do this by putting your hand together and making a small triangle between your thumbs and index fingers now look at something useing both eyes through the gap now close one eye and look at the target then try the other the dominant eye is the one that sees the same as both together.the eye is dominant will let u know if you need a left or right handed bow.
read up on arrow spine 2 or your arrows could break and go through your hand...

If you're going to end up getting a gun later, you might as well get one now. I went through the same thought process. A decent bow will run you MORE than a decent gun. I'm still going to get one, but only as a toy after I have the rest of the stuff squared away.

Right hand bow for right handed people, even though you'll hold the bow in your left hand. Otherwise find your dominant eye and even though your right handed, you may be best at going left handed.

Find a local archery shop near you and go there..That is the best advice I can give you..You never know what you are getting off Ebay..Go to a local dealer and shoot the bow---each bow shoots different. Some feel right and some don`t. It just depends on the individual..They usually have used bows for sale...if you don`t have archery knowledge then definately go to a archery shop...

These bows are ugly.
I shoot wild boars with just a plain Injun bow.
Takes a good aim and a steady hand, and you need to be real fast up a tree if piggie still decides to come after you...

You have to be fitted for bow/arrows for safety and accuracy if you don't what you're doing.....the wrong arrows can shatter or fly poorly....personally I like traditional archery....simple and reliable....no mechanical releases, sights, or wigety stuff to mess with...

The advantage of a compound bow is one can draw it back and hold it back for a few minutes. A longbow cannot be held back long enough while one waits for the best possible shot at one's target.

If I was going to war against an enemy who was using bows and arrows, I would want a longbow. But for hunting, a compound bow.

if you have to buy off ebay.buy a bow that is draw length adjustable buy adding bow cam modules.that way if its to long or to short it will only cost $10 $20 for a mod to suit u.and ask what condition the strings and cables are in they can cost $150+ for new ones.

I don't shoot critters though.I shoot to the mark.
