I used to shoot a Martin and a PSE. They were ok. If I were on the market, it'd be APA

Re: COMPOUND BOW'S, HELP PLEASE.........
and BTW.....you don't need an 85# bow....thats just macho crap that will tear up your shoulders as you get older.
These bows today are 320 plus fps..(feet per second)...it is more than enough to harvest anything in North America...

The point was about compound bows pulling through the 85lb mark till they rest at 45lb. Shooting with a longbow to the Mark is about trying out OLD War Bow strengths, not about machismo.

Not all bows have the same "let off" brutha..
 Quoting: <<LOOK`n thru YOU>>

correct....most old compounds were 45 and 55....real old ones

then it went to 65, and now 75 and 80 on the newer models....

I don't shoot critters though.I shoot to the mark.

I only shoot game for food, never for fun.
And I always make sure to shoot it dead, so no suffer.

hf

Thats cool,I'm not keen on game myself and Chickens are no fun to shoot!

Turkeys are very hard to hunt with a bow, taste good, and are fun to shoot.
I agree, chickens are no fun.

Do you know that Turkey's can see white? So, never use white fletching when hunting turkey.:-)

The same with blue and white tail, they see blue like we see florescent orange, so never use blue fletching when hunting white tail.

not many Turkey running around Blightey! (well not the feathered kind anyway) but good tips Bowhunter dude!

dudett....and thank you...

oh my god! she's Sarah Palin....... ahhh
 Quoting: Richard Eldritch

not quite...I have not used my guns since I picked up Archery.....besides, I no longer hunt for trophy...:-) I am a very ethical hunter when harvesting for meat....:-)

Re: COMPOUND BOW'S, HELP PLEASE.........
Looking on Ebay, does anybody know what to look for in terms of quality? I dont want anything too pricey, mid range cost...... Untill I get a gun I want one of these, Any info welcome
 Quoting: Revolutionary

What is your idea of "Mid-Range" OP?

I shoot all the time and have a Mathews Mcpherson Series Monster 7 with a code red rest, HHA single pin, Axion stab, 64.5lb draw, 29.5" @ 311 fps and I can shoot the heads off of wooden matches at 20 yards...

I use Victory V-Force V3 carbon arrows and RAGE 2" mechanical broadheads

Total setup, i was about 1400.00 + 200.00 for the case - Bow was 800.oo bare...

Mathews Z-7 is an awesome bow as well. I would have bought the Z-7 but I never buy first year bows. I like to give them a year or two to work out the kinks. The Z-7 had some derailment problems due to cam depth as well as some trouble with their risers when they cut them which caused the limbs to tweak on a few. I may buy the Z-7 in 2011. Best selling bow on the market right now...

However, if you are looking for a lower price than that, I also have a Bowtech Soldier that I use for packing in and you can get one of these here in the states for about 325.00 RTS(Ready to Shoot) and they are a great pack and tree stand bow...

Get yourself a Trophy Ridge whisker biscuit for about 50 bucks and a dozen arrow and you are good to go...

Bowtech has another one calle the Assassin that is a nice bow as well. About 599.00 RTS

Whatever you get, make sure you factor in for a case, even a cheapie soft side... Last thing you want is to accidentally graze the string with something and have your bow explode on you...

I purchased an old "robin hood" compund bow, think it was made by Bear archery. I've had no problems with it around ~55-60 pound draw and paid 50$ on ebay for it. Used it for deer hunting twice and did not have an issue each time. Like everyone else is saying, do your research and after you get it take it to an archery shop to have it looked over.

I was a bare bow shooter until Jan 2010.

Takes a bit of getting used to, but once you figure it out, your consistency improves over 3 finger shooting. I have always been good with a bow and probably should have continued in competition as I did so well as a junior shooter. Now I am getting back into it and will be shooting in a competition in February... Good fun and keeps the bill for bullets down

with a compound there great once u get used to them.
but trad, long or recurve.fingers all the way.
while we are talking about fingers what style do u use on your long bow eg one finger above the arrow two below? three under?
i use one above two below but if your pulling 110 im guessing three below due to the pinch.

You can probably get a decent new PSE for under 300$ at dicks. 70# is plenty....its a little too much actually, Ive had better luck killing things set back to 60# instead of having a thru and thru the arrow breaks off inside and the deer stops a lot quicker.

Z-7 is replacing the Reezen and while it is a great bow, I went with the Monster 7 and can't say I am the least bit disappointed...

I shot the Bowtech Assassin, which I think is the New Bow from Bowtech you are talking about. It is like a step up from the Soldier and I may replace my soldier with it. Very nice bow and very light, while a bit more forgiving than the Soldier...

3 best drop away rests are as follows IMHO...

Rip Cord Code Red

Vapor Trail Limb Driver

QAD - Similar to the code red, great rest, but more stuff for ice etc to screw up than the Code Red

Of course, can;t forget a simple and reliable rest...

The Trophy Ridge Whisker Biscuit.

code red are the best dropaway rests.
and fobs are great for hunting{just thought id throw that in for the never ending bow thread}
p.s everyone its 3 in the morning here in aus and op is probley fast asleep by now.

I just hate those compound trigger things. Doesn't feel right unless I feel the string.

the trigger release is more accurate at longer distance when hunting, than with fingers on a compound bow.

I saw a video where an arrow released with a trigger goes side to side like a snake and when released with fingers it went up an down like a roller coaster.

I thought that was pretty interesting. Personally I use a trigger with a wrist strap. It makes it so much easier to draw back my bow.
They should take the warning labels off of everything and let stupidity sort itself out.
