Anonymous Coward User ID: 1219481 France 01/06/2011 10:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It does not surprise me at all. People spent money ON THEMSELVES at Christmas because they were sick of wearing the same old shit for the past 2 or 3 years and needed to upgrade home products too. But now...ask anyone...everyone is hunkering down again. Additionally and perhaps more pertinently, the real estate slump has changed the face of many communities and the retailers have to dump crappy properties before the turd stinks even more. Commercial real estate is going to tank further, hand in hand with residential this year. |

ANNONYMOUS User ID: 825313 United States 01/06/2011 10:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yahoo reports this morning that retail sales for December were DISSAPPOINTING with the requisite excuses. What they aren't saying is that as good as things looked previously it was based on smoke and mirrors. The constant sales obviously meant low profit potential and that is what we see reflected by these closings. After the way I was treated by Macys recently I would venture they have major issues. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1155273 United States 01/06/2011 10:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All the "great sales #'s" reported on the MSM, failed to mention the "profit margin" of said sales.......LESS THAN 0%! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1219560GIVING SHIT AWAY IS THE LAST GASP OF A DYING RETAIL ECONOMY! Thank you, thank you. That is exactly right. They reported on "sales" and not profitability. Here's my anecdotal evidence. Penney's is STILL holding 70-80% off sales. Not a good sign. Store is looking a little bare. I asked if they were closing. No. We are "trying" to get them to send us more merchandise". Ummmm. I replied. Sears on the other hand, I don't remember seeing anyone with one of their bags in their hand through the entire holiday shopping season. They are fully stocked! Which will be the first to close? I will post when something happens. There have already been 3 casualtiess in and around the mall area since New Years. Malls are sounding a death knell across the country. Too much leverage in commercial real estate. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1155273A lot of stores are still holding these sales. I'd love to say it's typical because they are already clearing "winter inventory" for "spring inventory" but I've only been to a handful of stores since Christmas.
