If you read the Book of Enoch, Ethiopian text version (the truest to those found in the Dead Sea Scrolls), we see that the fallen 200 taught early humans astronomy and astrology. If you read this text, you will learn the name of the exact fallen angel which taught mankind these two subjects.

Moreover, Enoch himself was taken into Heaven by God and given an overview tour on how everything works.

This knowledge was passed down throughout the generations, as God told the people that He would speak to them by showing them signs in the heavens...and that those who were watching for them would know what was happening or about to happen.

There is a great overview of the Star of Bethlehem here:

This guy essentially uses a regressive astronomy pattern to go back 2,000 years and to look at the heavens as they would have looked two millennia ago. There, he finds something very interesting:

Its metaphor. The 3 wisemen are actually the 3 stars of Orions belt. The stars point to Sirius.

there are a ton of documentaries you can watch. I wouldn't recommend taking random answers. The story is quite fascinating really.

Daniel was the head of the court for the kings of Babylon, God spoke to him about many things and gave him visions of the future. I would think that it was his writings that directed the magis.

Astronomer/astrologers of the time would have been aware of the progression of the equinox. The sun exiting Aries (moses) and entering Pisces (jesus) the new son god. The age lasts about 2500 years and then we enter aquarius, the water bearer depicted by the man who brought water to Jesus and disciples in the gospels.

All stars rise in the east due to earth's rotation.

The only stars which "stop" are planets in retrograde motion.

The word "planet", taken from Greek, means, "wandering star".

In September of 2 B.C., There was a conjunction of Regalus (the king star) and Jupiter (the king planet). Jupiter circumscribed a crown in the heavens over Regalus. Moreover, this happened in the constellation of Leo, while Virgo to its side, the Virgin, had a group of stars in "her: hair and a crescent moon at her feet.

Re: how did the magi know that where the star of the messiah would be???
They're called wise men. Wise men have a lot of ways to figure things out. Wise men followed the star and associated it with a King being born.

That and the fact they probably had doctrine or scriptures that foretold his arrival.
