Free Education on how to grow your own food indoors... See the monster broccoli grown in my basement with hydroponics. Learn the art and prepare befo
Hi guys,

I started a youtube channel illustrating, explaining and teaching you how to grow your own food indoors with hydroponics. This is a great way to get our independence back and prepare for tough times.

Let me know what you think and I will answer as many questions as I can. I will be adding many more videos and the next series will feature photos of the cherry tomatoes I grew. I grew two cherry tomato plants with one 90watt LED light and ended up with 455 cherry tomatoes that weighed a bit over 11.2 lbs.

I hope that this will be an inspiration to some of you out there.

Here is a video on the hydroponic broccoli I harvested with 1 90watt led light.

Here is an instructional video part 1 0f 2 of the system I built that grew the Broccoli.

I haven't had any problems and authorities can look all they want. All they will find is lettuce, kale, tomatoes, cucumber, basil, dill, swiss chard, and many other veggies. The led lights barely produce heat above room temperature and the ones I use are only drawing 90watts of electricity. A lot of modern home computers are now running 450+watts for a power supply.

That's the best system that I've seen yet. One concern...do those plastic tubs leech bad plastic toxins into the water that then gets absorbed by the plants...which then produces toxic veggies? Plastic is made from petroleum, etc. It's not food grade plastic. Don't have any kids until you get produce tested.

That was cool, and thanks for posting!

Did you eat the leaves too, or just the center? Seems like such a waste not to make use of all of those greens.

I was wondering what the purpose of the tinfoil-looking stuff on the walls was. Is that the equivalent of a tinfoil hat for your plats? ;) Methinks it's probably to reflect the light, but it's much more amusing to think of it as a giant tinfoil hat for your underground plants in their bunker. :)

I have some food grade plastic systems as well. You have a point about plastics, but consider where most lettuce, broccoli, and herbs are now grown. They are grown in commercial settings hydroponically. Sprays are used and the water is barely changed. The best way to grow food is outdoors in soil where you use permaculture practices. I am growing veggies indoors during the Cdn winter. I know that my seeds are organic heirloom varieties and that no insecticides herbicides or fungicides are being used. On top of that when I pick my food it is living and alive. In the grocery store produce will loose 40 to 90 percent of the nutrition from picking to delivery. I also change the water every week to 2 weeks.

Is it perfect... Well no, but it is still much better than commercial factory farmed produce!

We ate the leaves in our salads! That was only one of 3 broccoli's that were growing in that system. I am still eating the same plants as they keep growing!!!

As for the reflective silver, it is known as Mylar or in my case a more durable material called folyon. It is like a tarp, same material and thickness, black on one side and reflective silver on the other side. It is 96 percent reflective and produces about 60 percent more lumens.

The lights that I am using are LEDs and they work great! Be carefull of the cheap clones on eBay as they will cause disappointment.

I laughed at your thoughts on what the folyon might be used for!

#2 plastic will leech very little nasty chemicals.
Very safe as far as plastic goes.
I would be more concerned about the #6 or #7 plastic water bottles used on water coolers that are everywhere.

Biblical technology? What book is this in assclown? Foliar feeding and using sound waves to stimulate the stoma isn't " biblical technology".

What do you do to eliminate excessive humidity from the growing tubs? Surely, the basement must be humid. Mold likes conditions that are humid and little air circulation. You made no mention of detering humidity.

Humidity will be dependant on where you live. I live in Calgary, Alberta Canada. We have a very dry climate. The humidity in my grow room has never surpassed 65%.

In December, just after harvesting one of the broccoli plants, I put up a grow tent. The grow tent is black on the outside and is reflective silver on the inside. It measures 8 feet long, 4.2 feet wide and 6.7feet high. It now contains all of the humidity and I absolutely love going in the tent. It is like going in a green house, it smells awesome and I imagine the oxygen content is quite high in there. It just smells so fresh!

I will put up a video by this weekend showing everyone what my grow tent looks like. So, if you have humidity concerns, a grow tent will take care of it completely. It will add an additional 60% lumens from your light sources as the material is around 96% reflective.

Some people go to this extent, but for my small area, which is around 8x4, it is not needed. I am also using all LED lights so I do not need anything for cooling either.

Impressive yield! Brocolli leaves and stem are edible. The leaves are IMO best chopped up and added to stirfry or even a soup. The stem is BEST peeled of the outer thick skin and then eaten raw. It is delicious!

I'll be building aquaponics systems soon, a little different from hydro. I prefer it since it's a self sustaining system, no need for nutrients or much of anything other than what the fish and bacteria put into the system. The plants grow 2x faster to with larger yields, but there are limitations as some plants don't grow well.
