Anonymous Coward 07/28/2005 08:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Houston (Texas City) New 2nd Explosion First Ft. Worth, now this [ link to www.khou.com] FAIR USE CITED FOR DISCUSSION ONLY - QUOTE: ------------------------------------------------------------- BP explosion rattles nerves in Texas City; no injuries reported 07:08 PM CDT on Thursday, July 28, 2005 From 11 News Staff Reports TEXAS CITY -- A loud explosion at the BP plant gave residents of Texas City quite a scare Thursday evening. AIR 11 BP´s internal fire crews were working to contain the fire. BP officials say no one was hurt. They say the fire is being handled by its own internal crews. "There is no danger to the community. They are working to get the fire out," said George Fuller with Texas City Emergency Management. No shelter-in-place was issued although residents were asked to continue monitoring news reports in case that situation changes. Texas City Mayor Matt Doyle told 11 News this is considered a Level 2 emergency. The explosion could be heard and felt from miles away. "My wife was inside. She said it shook the house," said David Sells, who lives nearby. "It was... pretty good boom." "My husband and I were outside in Santa fe about 15 miles away and heard the explosion this evening," said Billie Morris via e-mail. Even news crews covering the shuttle at the Johnson Space Center heard the boom, according to 11 News reporter Jeremy Desel. Texas City firefighters were on standby in case the BP firefighters need help. It happened in the RHU unit, which processes low grade crude oil into refined oil products, according to The Daily News. Those familiar with the unit say it uses hydrogen to handle the bulk of its workload and is one of the higher pressure units at the refinery. The explosion was a frightening reminder of the March explosion at BP that killed 15 people and injured nearly 200. The investigation into the cause of that explosion continues. |

Anonymous Coward 12/08/2005 10:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: Houston (Texas City) New 2nd Explosion Yeah, there was an oil rig fire off of India when a ship hit it, then another one on fire someplace else when I looked at google news late last night. Was wondering if it was terrorism but then saw that the one was from a ship so discarded that notion. Now...maybe not. |

The blast was said to have been caused by a bomb, but it was not yet clear if the train was the intended target. Meanwhile, the US military has said two soldiers were killed and one hurt by a bomb near Baghdad on Wednesday. Several Iraqi troops died in attacks elsewhere. Iraq´s Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari has also condemned the killing of two Algerian diplomats abducted last week. Huge fire A group claiming to be al-Qaeda in Iraq posted an internet statement on Wednesday saying it had killed Algerian envoys Ali Balarousi and colleague Azzedi. Mr Zebari complained that "neighbouring countries" were doing too little to stop foreign fighters crossing their borders into Iraq. Speaking at a news conference with new US ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, he said: "Iraq´s security is part of the security of these countries." The blast on a seven-tanker convoy carrying oil occurred in the Doura neighbourhood of southern Baghdad, police said. Witnesses reported a huge fire and a massive cloud of smoke over the railway line, but were unsure whether the train or a nearby police checkpoint was the intended target. Six Iraqi soldiers have been killed in clashes with insurgents in two towns north of Baghdad on Thursday, the Reuters news agency has reported. Security sources said fighters had fired mortars and guns at checkpoints in Baquba and Khan Bani. [ link to news.bbc.co.uk] |

Anonymous Coward 12/08/2005 10:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: Houston (Texas City) New 2nd Explosion I thought the same. One idea is that they want to make it appear as if they´re not behind it and trying to cover it up that its happening in a way so people think it really is a terrorist thing. |

Maybe...they are not behind all of it. They have to hush up the random, unrelated events so as not to ruin their fake cover story. Think about it - so much shit has been stirred up already that there´s bound to be angry random terrorists and crazies out there as well. |
