Wish we'd get a clear sky morning over here soon,
so I can check the almanac's sunrise/-set times...

I tried to watch the web cam yesterday, but it was too cloudy in Tromsø then. I suspect that it could have been seen, because today it was visible too long. Normally it stays up only for app. 3 minutes. My pics shows much longer time.

Cern lhc is destroying everything in our solar system. All the common daily records we have known, is now being warped as a result of cern lhc, and this was the real intent of the evil foot soldiers whom control/operate cern lhc and they willing serve the prince of darkness.

Again cern lhc logo is a triangle 666 symbol.

Yeah, seeing as how the sun has returned several weeks earlier on some occasions, one day is hardly a cause for concern.

The sun rises, yes - but BEHIND the mountains! The sun can NOT be seen from the city center until Jan 21.

Interesting, there's a pretty deep inversion layer over Tromso extending south today:

Such conditions are favorable to increased atmospheric refraction such that light rays travel around the curvature of the earth at a constant altitude

This is consistent with a higher apparent altitude for the sun near the horizon than normal.

Direct observation proves that the planet's axis is right where it should be, so that "norm" is confirmed.

The Sun refracted off plasma gas crystals creating a weather balloon effect.

I didn't say you weren't, I said the sun was refracted higher than normal due to a large, deep temperature inversion extending far south of Tromso. Why do you take that fact as an attack on your ability to recognize the sun?

Well good it's slowing down, because it rose in Greenland 2 days early.

If atmospheric refraction qualifies as an illusion then technically every sunrise is an illusion; the sun's true position is below the horizon when you see it rise even on a normal day, but atmospheric refraction causes it to appear at least one diameter higher than it otherwise would (if earth were an airless rock). Atmospheric refraction varies with factors such as temperature and altitude over the horizon, which is why the sun and moon usually look "squashed" as they rise and set; the top is refracted less than the bottom under normal conditions. When astronomical objects are that close to the horizon, changes to the amount or form of refraction due to local conditions become the most significant. Inversion layers in particular can make objects appear higher than normal, either making sunrise occur prematurely or making sunset occur late.

It is possible the famous Tromsø swamp gas that makes it look like the sun is visible, but it is not..

It could also be an effect from the new year fireworks combined with the cold air from the global warming which is making them explode late and that could create an optical illusion thinking you see the sun..

This is bad.
