If i can understand the "mechanics" that will help me to explain to people if/when things get dire.

I would like to add, I believe God is the great mechanic he creates wheels within wheels. I think during the end days our "intellect and reasoning" will alert us.

On the down side (lol) God will create 3 days of darkness. I wold love to know if there is a mechanical cause of this but Jst the same I am happy to understand...If he wills it, it will happen.

Thank you, i have had the odd feeling of too much daylight here in the uk.

I wonder if it would be an idea for folks to post their latitudes ?

I have the feeling its a north south tilt rather than an east west acceleration.

LOL i like your name, I tend to over analyse as well.

To be honest its a well known British pasttime to moan about the weather. We had some incredible snow and cold temperatures.

Now here is an admission. I am a prepper. I prepped for extremes that the uk rarely have.

The ODD weather gave me chance to try out my preps, help my neighbours AND to chastise those who thought I was a bit overzealous and who had in the past quite honestly laughed at me.


Perhaps the bad weather you have had could be an intro to tell your neighbours about the odd sunrises.

I have no link, but I was just listening to the local newscaster and he said that the sun rose for 12 minutes today over Barrow Alaska. It wasn't supposed to rise until January 24, 2011.

I believe what could be happening is that the actual position of the Earth in relationship to the Sun, meaning, the distance between the two, is slightly changing.

See, right now, the Earth is at Perihelion to the Sun. The Earth reached Perihelion, around January 3rd or 4th of 2011. This is the Earth's closest approach (in distance) to the Sun. Now, if there are extreme Northern Latitude countries that are seeing sunlight earlier-than-usual, this would tell me that the Earth is getting even closer, just a little bit, to the Sun, during the Perihelion Stage. Why? Something is very wrong with the orbit of the Earth around the Sun. Like a slingshot, as the Earth inches closer in distance to the Sun, than normal, the Earth is speeding up it's movement around the Sun, while at Perihelion, but also increasing it's angular momentum around the Sun, giving the 'sling shot effect' more power. In essence, at Aphelion, around July 3rd, 4th of 2011, the Earth will be at a greater distance from the Sun, and it will prove to be a COOLER-THAN-USUAL SUMMER!!! This is what I see happening.

What is causing the Sun to rise, earlier-than-usual in extreme Northern Latitude countries? Either the Earth and Sun are now closer together at Perihelion, in distance; The tilt angle of the Earth has changed to become lesser, smaller than 23.5 degrees, or there is occurring a drastic change in the upper atmosphere of the Earth to where it's becoming colder, alot colder, and it's developing a whole lot of ice crystals. These crystals could be reflecting sunlight back onto the Earth's surface, to make it APPEAR that sunlight is coming earlier-than-expected, when really, it's an upper atmosphere problem, that could be caused by the Earth going into a deep cold. This could be caused if the Earth is moving away from the Sun right now, at Perihelion, increasing the distance between the Sun and the Earth, because of some kind of angular momentum anamoly. It's true though, most Northern Hemispheric Countries are experiencing colder-than-usual temperatures during this winter of 2010-2011. Perhaps the NASA Guy, Mike, was right! If the Sun is losing mass, that means the Sun is also losing gravity, as mass and gravity are directly proportionate. If this be true, this is the scenario where the NASA Guy talks about increasingly deeper and longer winters, with shorter, much hotter summers. Either way, we're in deep trouble. Crops are going to fail and the weather is going to be whacked out. You know the rest of the story from here...

It'll be interesting to see what happens, and which of my above-stated scenarios is the case. Will have to wait and see.

FWIW...

I live in NC and can tell that the sun is setting later in the day than it "should".

I don't remember it ever being this bright out at 5:30 -6:00pm in the evenings this early in the year.

Others here have been noticing the same thing.

Be careful giving up LAT/LONG. It can easily advertise your home address. Always leave out the seconds, report only minutes and hours.

Can any astronomer explain what would need to happen for this to be true ?

I THINK i am seeing some odd changes here in the UK but dont have any details to back it up so it may just be a glp suggestion effect.


Would it be the relative POSITIONS of the earth and sun that would need to change ?

Anybody in the far south latitudes reporting a shorter day, or a later sunrise/earlier sunset than normal?
