I know people have a huge amount of trouble accepting this because our cultural roots have been smashed to bits and we have had bullshit forced down our throats and most people has accepted the bullshit. As for this bit which many people mistakenly think means the virgins are males, it simply means not defiled by woman and I think from a hint in the movie "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" it refers to woman always breeding true with two XX's, men are always defiled by woman and become XY.

In Song of Solomon the virgins are identified as woman.
