Do we people from the midwest really speak funny?

The Midwest US accent (or lack of) is the preferred form of American English.

Most foreigners ascribe to learn the Midwestern accent. Not too many Chines trying to learn 'Southern'.

If you are from the Dakotas or Minnesota you probably speak funny.

Yes listen to any news or weather broadcast from around the country, they will all have the accent-less midwest 'accent'.

Well, there is a difference right about US Highway 50. I can tell a big difference anyway. I've lived on both sides. I don't think it's 'funny' really.

He also doesn't understand why I say. "MMMhmmmm" alot in replacement of "yes"

Im in Southern Illinois. right in between Kentucky Indiana and Missouri.

no sir, i reckon we speak better english than the rest of them yanks....i mean, u look at any other region n they got sum kinda accent, but here in the sticks, we speak, RIGHT, i gots good english, i warsh my clothes, and i swim by the crick, but, i speak ALOT more coherent than dam near errbody else i know.....

I'm pretty close to ya. Used to live in C. Indiana. Yep, you will be spotted with the accent, but it's all good, I think. ;-)

My boss is Korean and Ive been teaching him how to speak redneck.

One of my best friends lives in Germany. His first time here was in the Midwest, back in the 90's. What a time we had between proper English and Hoosier. lol

Unless you want to discuss how your mouth is so purty. In fact, research into the most relevant state of the US the CIA started recruiting from for English mastery, not to mention many other language - yes, fluent. Take a moment to look past your nose and do some research.

That's cool. I go up to Evansville every couple weeks to visit my uncle. Hoosiers are cool.

My grandpa calls all creeks cricks. That one is lost to my generation unfortunately.

Its amazing how just two generations ago, our families in some of these small towns were still living like they were in the 1800s.
