The moons orbit is tilted 5 degrees, so it does not occur every month. It's only when the moon's orbit crosses directly between the sun and earth, not happening everyday because the moon's orbit is tilted partially. That is also why there are partial eclipses, where on part of the sun/moon is covered. This is like first grade knowledge. Someone is not smarter than a fifth grader... |

Listen up O Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1243854When the moon passes under or above the sun it is a called an "astronomical New Moon" and we can't see it cuz the sun is blinding. Blinding? So I wouldn't be able to see a bird fly in the sky when the sun is out? I wouldn't see an airplane pass across the sun? I wouldn't see a BIG rock like the MOON pass under the sun or above the sun even if I put my hand in front of the sun shielding it while I look over and under for that BIG ROCK floating in broad daylight? Interesting.... |

Its a fair question. Quoting: 1010900 1253530Why hasn't anyone seen the MOON pass in front of the sun during what we call the New moon phase which occurs EVERY single MONTH of the YEAR? Now we know science is very much advanced, well, with all their understanding from landing a man on the moon, supporting GEO-satellites on thin air with their math, seeing the invisible atoms and then measuring and weighing them, photographing colorless planets (hydrogen-Jupiter) in the dark without a flash, etc, etc. Its their understanding of the earth with all its 360 flattened arcs that really has me doubting. The earth being round (and it is) having the moon revolving around it while the earth itself revolves around the sun, the moon would most definitely pass in front of the sun at some point during its lunar schedule and we would see this transit before the sun. Unless the sun, like the moon, also revolve around the 360 flat arcs of the spherical earth, and by this, the moon would never pass in front it. :) What do you think? Is science right in that we're just too busy during the daytime and aren't looking up at the sun? Or perhaps science believes that the sunlight is the same color like the moonlight and doesn't have a clue? wow, you are a true idiot. Nice to meet you! I have met dummies and stupid people and even accused some stupid people of being idiots when they were not, but never met an actual idiot before..... are there really people out there like this,i think they just pretend to know nothing just to get a little bit of attention on the internet, and yes solar eclipses are real,a new moon is different, its because the sun is behind the earth, and the earth is not in a position to cast a shadow on the moon., |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1253373 Most of us here in Canada know what a solar eclipse is. Sadly it appears the OP never went to school or opened a science book of any kind. Are you insinuating that a NEW MOON is like a solar eclipse and that one occurs every SINGLE month of the YEAR. |

A solar eclipse can only happen in the new moon phase. At new moon, the moon is between sun and earth. So you can only see the dark side of the moon, that you cant see. Because of the tilted orbit of the moon, the moon is in most cases over or under the ecliptic. So no solar eclipse, just a partial eclipse in most cases. You can only "see" the dark side of the moon during the eclipse, when it blocks the sun completely. In millions of years, when the moon will have moved further away from earth, the moon will only block the center of the sun. |

Lol, you really seem to mentally disabled. [link to en.wikipedia.org] .....As seen from the Earth, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, and the Moon fully or partially covers the Sun as viewed from a location on Earth. This can only happen during a new moon, when the Sun and Moon are in conjunction as seen from Earth...... |

Why don't you tell me when the last one was? What year? What day? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1253530You can read about it on this webpage. [link to www.mreclipse.com] I know that, I just want you to tell me the date, you know, the date when this moon got in front of the same sun I had in my skies in Canada? Or is this another moon that science-fiction filmed in front of another sun somewhere other than where I live? (Canada) Seems like you think a solar eclipse could be seen everywhere on earth but that's wrong. The so called "umbra" is a shadow circle with some 100 miles diameter, only there you can see the eclipse. More info here: [link to en.wikipedia.org] |
