Riker (OP) User ID: 1181030 United States 02/03/2011 10:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | haha :-) Quoting: RikerWell I definitely believe that there is a Creator, and that "right" and "wrong" are the same no matter the race/culture/etc... not just in a religious sense but just as the Laws of the Universe that was created. If you do things that work according to the Laws of the universe, things are well. If you break the Laws of the Universe, not so much. The commonality of right and wrong across so many varied cultures (obviously not in all details but in general) makes me think that there is a common origin. Anyway, the direct answer, is the common morality comes from the common Laws made by the common Creator. does morality exist outside the various religions? I would say it does. Even in the most primitive of cultures there is a morality/respect for others and nature. one mans morality is another mans sin especially in primitive cultures, consider New Guinea ... Smilin' Irish Eyes User ID: 656642 United States 02/03/2011 10:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ...Perhaps they also identify/associate Jesus with the brimstone and fire preachers and can't separate Jesus from the distorted teachings of the Council of Nicea/Emperor Constantine. Quoting: Smilin' Irish EyesFor those that say that God/Jesus doesn't answer prayers, he does truly, just not in the way you readily recognize. I know, I know...cliche, trite, etc. I have had many low points in my life, I sobbed for God; there was a gentle, warm peace that embraced me. It didn't make the low point go away, but it did give me my own inner determination not to let this point get me down. That is the God I believe in, the God that speaks to each of us; we just have to be willing to recognize it when it happens. That's not jesus, that's God. There's a difference. jesus does nothing. If my child yells for help and calls me daddy, I help her anyway when she really needs it. I don't quibble about the name she called me. Nor do I suddenly sprout a penis and scrotum because I was called "daddy." God answered your prayer IN SPITE of what you called It. Not BECAUSE of what you called It. Jesus doesn't exist, and probably never did in any form. If any man existed that was anything like the one in the bible, he was horribly hijacked and brutally misused. This is the whole problem. People cry out to God and God answers... but they put names on God and God still answers. So they think that the NAME was what answered... not GOD. The name "jesus" holds no power. Human faith holds all the power, and God answers according to the TRUTH of GOD... no matter the expectations and lies that have been shoved onto It. That's the problem, though. God always answered your prayer, but in the appropriate and real way that God does so. Not according to the LIES of the bLibel. The LIES of the bLibel actually push people away from GOD by creating unrealistic and unreasonable expectations of God. When of course, they fail to materialize... people become disillusioned with GOD, when it's just JESUS that doesn't exist, NOT GOD!! The failure is in the lies. If we could know the TRUTH about GOD and what to expect, and not the lies the bLibel tells about GOD, we would find more people would have and sustain belief in GOD. But the bLibel, by lying, destroy faith, and/or misplace it. Which is terrible. Evil, even. Hi Sandi. Guess I still have some vestiges remaining from the Catholicism I was raised with. Did Jesus exist? Was he truly the son of God or just a collection of other myths put together for the new government sponsored religion? I don't know for sure. Jesus' messsage of love, compassion and forgiveness resonate with me (they also closely resemble a lot of Hindu teachings). Most of the parables I believe were by some radical during that time that had a following and maybe they were enhanced when good ole Constantine got a hold of them. But, yes, the bible if taken literally word for word is a very violent book that does not portray God in a positive light. When reviewed as a collection of stories of cultural conquest of a nomadic desert tribe and how they, in their culture perceived what was God, the bible is a bit more tolerable. I am with you about God cannot be contained in any one man-made religion; God is within all of us. If people could truly put aside their dogmatic beliefs and just sit back and marvel at how perfect nature is, they would see God is everywhere, not contained to a book. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1180899 United States 02/04/2011 02:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is no problem with some religion here and there, but people who start religious threads once a day, several times a day. You know who you are, are making a bad name for Jesus. So, tell, me who really hates Jesus? People who are annoyed by Jesus freaks, or are the people who are giving Jesus a bad name by being preoccupied with Jesus and religion who are hating Jesus by turning people away from spirituality by thinking that if they become Christians that they too must also become preoccupied with religion in order to be a faithful member. Faith and preoccupation with Jesus and religion are not the same thing. They are opposed to each other, faith and preoccupation with Jesus. Actually a lack of faith and a lack of strong spirituality and growth lead to a preoccupation with Jesus. It's almost like these preoccupied types are trying to convince themselves they have faith. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1228748 United States 02/04/2011 04:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why don't you like Christians? Sincere question and I've had my own reasons.... but please if you don't mind give me an actual example, not just the easy bible thumper line! It would help me out. Quoting: RikerAlso, some people believe that they actually HAVE met him. People who met him when he lived hated him or loved him. And even those who don't believe he ever existed say awful things directed specifically about him, not just his followers, you know? I don't dislike christians across the board - I can bear them in small doses on a case-by-case basis. Part of the problem is people's personality types: If all christians would take a Myers Briggs survey, I'd bet the farm that our churches are full of only a couple different varieties of personalities. These are the shiny extroverts who don't seem to understand people or experiences outside their little realm. They make sure you know they're christian, and they're practically wrapped in the trappings of the subculture. It's like they go around acting a certain way, which kind of makes you (meaning me) wonder if any of Him is really taking root in there. Actual people with actual souls don't seem to care for any of this, so it's not all that far-fetched for them to conclude that Jesus must be what's "wrong" with these folks. I doubt that anyone who "hates" Jesus has ever really met Him, because He's exactly what each of us need. Most humans are not wanton evildoers. Yes, we're all defective and in need of redemption, but the line that "People hate Jesus cuz they love their sin" is just another symptom of folks who need to get out more. Jesus is like water for a thirsty soul, but clones keep trying to flavor it with all kinds of crap. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1029269I know, right? *Always* assume people have demons =D do you believe in aliens? Never met 'em, but it sounds like they're here. Some or all of them may turn out to be fallen angels, but I decided we'll see when/if the time ever comes. Legitimate angels could just as easily be "aliens" as fallen ones, in my book. The comment about people having demons is just more noise from church-bots who can't conceive of anyone not liking church-bots. Why do christians so readily and eagerly assume the worst? |
