Solar Flare Erupts Directly At The Earth, Should Hit Early Tuesday Morning (2/15/2011)
Sunspot 1158 swelled up like a water balloon over a 4 hour period then popped, unleashing an M6.6 category blast DIRECTLY at the Earth. It is traveling at 1119 km/s, and should hit the Earth in 37 hours, or 5-6AM Mountain Standard Time. This is the largest solar flare we have seen in quite a while, and it should produce exciting results for us travelers on the spaceship Earth.

Is this for real?

Update: Header fixed to show date of impact...NOT the date the article was written.

True. Will hit 2/15 but fortunatly... no doom here. It's just an M6. Big indeed, but not big enough for doom.
It's funny... most of GPL'rs are always searching and wanting doom. I wonder when a strong enough CME will send us all to stone age if you'll still think doom is good and fun. This or any other kind of doom will not bring any good for any of us.

From the article:

"We are predicting an initial solar storm of up to Kp7, though the majority of the storm should be at or below Kp6. According to the NOAA, a Kp7 storm may have the following affects:

Power systems: voltage corrections may be required, false alarms triggered on some protection devices.

Spacecraft operations: surface charging may occur on satellite components, drag may increase on low-Earth-orbit satellites, and corrections may be needed for orientation problems.

Other systems: intermittent satellite navigation and low-frequency radio navigation problems may occur, HF radio may be intermittent, and aurora has been seen as low as Illinois and Oregon (typically 50° geomagnetic lat.)**."

The article doesn't talk about any huge doom, in fact, it suggests it might be really beautiful for those who see it.

the flare hit nearly immediately, it is the CME that will hit later, depending on space conditions as to when and how much. This was not an impressive CME, there are other images on the net of far more impressive ones coming from a sun spot.

NO and NO and NO. The M 6.6 FLARE is NOT THE CME!!!!!!!!!! It was an x ray flare and it did hit already, otherwise it would not be on the charts.

the CME is yet to arrive, it's weak and may or may not arrive depending on space conditions. CME's are NOT classed by x ray flare connotations. They are not A B C M or X!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please people do some homework.

Sorry, i'm a begginer in this subject. Yet, for the few basics that i can manage an x-flare usually ends on a CME (big or small). Am i wrong? My bad for the way i wrote. What i was meant to say was that what would hit us on 2/15 is the CME.
