Fire Proof Safe
I'm wanting to buy a fire & water proof safe, primarily to store and protect personal documents. I'd like to purchase PM's in the future too so theft prevention protection (as well as media storage) would be nice too but there seems to be substantial price increase with those features.

I know I should weigh the value of what is being stored vs the cost of the safe. What I currently have I don't think would be of much value to anyone but if someone were to break in and see a safe they will automatically think there is something valuable in it.

Anyway, I'm interested in hearing your experiences and opinions with various brands and models are. And what to look for and stay away from; style of locking mechanism , ease of use, durability/reliability etc.

I'm thinking 1-2 cubic foot size...

Thanks
PARANOID.

Re: Fire Proof Safe
look into a fireproof filing cabinet, they are cheap used, and can be modified to lock.

I just looked at mine. Weird. No label on it. I got it years ago, so I have no idea what brand it is. tounge

Re: Fire Proof Safe
The Sentry brand of fireproof safes are actually pretty good in testing....fireproofed safes are not burglar resistant...you'll have to get a safe that's rated for fire and burglar resistant....forget waterproof safes they are specialized and very expensive....any thing that need to stay dry can be put in a waterproof container first....

Yea.. I noticed when combining levels of security the price jumps A LOT. I was under the impression fire proof safes were also water proof, maybe water 'resistant'? My only real concern about water is if there is a fire the fire department (or me) will be using water to put it out.

I'm also interested what to look for in the locking mechanisms, dial vs electronic vs key etc.
