What I find concerning is that it doesn't matter what season it is when you live near or in "Tornado Alley". Look what happened on New Years Eve. We had a level 3 that came through parts of Missouri that day. Quoting: MJ-13 1279483Yes..that was so freaky..and abnormal as well for Feb..looks like an early spring season. Yeah it is pretty freaky. And when it happens at night, where you can't see the threat coming, it's even worse. I've been through night time twisters. Scary sh*t. You're right..and by the looks of the radar..we are really gonna get it later tonite..looks like I'll be hit in an hour or so. |

Well..thanks for the luck :) It was nice in the 70s when I was a kid there, always had lots of fun in and around the lake. But yes I have heard that the water is nasty these days. But back to your topic, I remember some killer thunderstorms and funnel clouds........got to see a couple from a distance never got into one thank God. My Mother still tells an old family story of one of her aunts down in Manes Mo. getting taken up in a twister and lived to tell about it.....circa 1910. |

I may be wrong, but I am totally blaming the oil spill for our weather this year. Remember last year's "summer" oooo ahhhh...kinda pissed!! Other than a small line of storms along the dry line to the west, it looks pretty dry? [link to radar.weather.gov] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1279981 United States 02/28/2011 09:45 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm in St. Louis. I was watching a movie (Splice) on my ipod and my significant other came and told me the sirens were blaring. I went outside to take a gander. There were some lightning flashes and I thought about getting my camera for some long-exposure shots of lightning. But then I decided against that, because this was no normal generic storm. HUGE lightning bolts were arcing sideways from cloud to cloud. There were like EXPLOSIONS of lightning, giant flashes of blinding light that exploded into lightning bolts going every which way. In almost half a century of life I have never seen a storm like that. So, we booked to the bunker (self-built, tiny, but better than nothing). Shortly thereafter the power went out. Still alive, power restored now obviously, but dayum, that was one helluva storm! |
