Re: MISSOURI~ HEADS UP..sighs
Thank you for the update. What I find concerning is that it doesn't matter what season it is when you live near or in "Tornado Alley". Look what happened on New Years Eve. We had a level 3 that came through parts of Missouri that day.

Yes..that was so freaky..and abnormal as well for Feb..looks like an early spring season.
 Quoting: Friduwulf

Yeah it is pretty freaky. And when it happens at night, where you can't see the threat coming, it's even worse. I've been through night time twisters. Scary sh*t.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1279483

You're right..and by the looks of the radar..we are really gonna get it later tonite..looks like I'll be hit in an hour or so.

I was raised in that country, Lake of the Ozarks to be exact.........left there in the late 80's. After living here out west and going back there a couple of times I felt almost claustrophobic, I have to see the mountains when I get up in the morning..........but good luck tonight Missourians.

Just had the second round of storms move thru KC. I was out in it this afternoon, pouring down rain on 6-8 in snowcover made street flooding pretty common. Expecting snow before morning.

It was nice in the 70s when I was a kid there, always had lots of fun in and around the lake. But yes I have heard that the water is nasty these days.

But back to your topic, I remember some killer thunderstorms and funnel clouds........got to see a couple from a distance never got into one thank God. My Mother still tells an old family story of one of her aunts down in Manes Mo. getting taken up in a twister and lived to tell about it.....circa 1910.

Missouri born and bred here.....also have family all over Missouri - to include Iron Co.

I've lived in other (coastal) states as well....gotta say it was the storms I missed the most while I lived away from Missouri.

I hope all stay safe and that your homes stay intact......

I am in Wentzville, hoping it will miss. I may be wrong, but I am totally blaming the oil spill for our weather this year. Remember last year's "summer" oooo ahhhh...kinda pissed!!

I think that huge Icelandic volcano eruption put so much ash in the upper atmosphere that sunlight has been deflected; causing this extreme winter. One more big volcano and it's a new ice age?

AR, LA, MS straight-line winds + tornadoes; developing rapidly as the Southern leg comes alive. The straight-line is visible on radar now.

I'm just not seeing a 3am severe weather threat predicted for northern Arkansas...look at the current radar. Other than a small line of storms along the dry line to the west, it looks pretty dry?

Re: MISSOURI~ HEADS UP..sighs
I'm in St. Louis. I was watching a movie (Splice) on my ipod and my significant other came and told me the sirens were blaring. I went outside to take a gander. There were some lightning flashes and I thought about getting my camera for some long-exposure shots of lightning. But then I decided against that, because this was no normal generic storm. HUGE lightning bolts were arcing sideways from cloud to cloud. There were like EXPLOSIONS of lightning, giant flashes of blinding light that exploded into lightning bolts going every which way. In almost half a century of life I have never seen a storm like that. So, we booked to the bunker (self-built, tiny, but better than nothing). Shortly thereafter the power went out. Still alive, power restored now obviously, but dayum, that was one helluva storm!
