I have thought for quite some time that the 1,000 years actually began at or shortly after the Day of Pentecost. For instance, in that time the Catholic Church forbade the charging of interest, then later they started selling passes to heaven in the form of dispensations. Also the start of the crusades in 1095 where Pope Urban II told those who would fight the infidels that: "All who die by the way, whether by land or by sea, or in battle against the pagans, shall have immediate remission of sins. This I grant them through the power of God with which I am invested."
