This forum is full of it, I posted a thread on a protest against bankers bailouts in the UK and I got a score of anti Muslim rhetoric...???

Wow. PRIME EXAMPLE. Thanks. We need a thread called Shillin for Dummies or something with more of these types of examples. afro

It's so obvious. I could look up something online to get some information and then all of a sudden see commercials on my dtv advertising what I was looking up online. These are commercials I have never seen before.

Re: Guardian: Online forums are being HIJACKED by people who aren't what they seem
Just read an article on the Guardian that is apparently blocked here about companies using armies of paid users to log onto forums and actively troll them and argue with anyone who has a negative view of what they were paid to promote. Sound familiar? I remember seeing a post a while back about the US Airforce's purchase of software to do this exact thing, but apparently companies are doing it now too.

Just google Guardian Astroturfing and it's the second link down.
 Quoting: The Other Guy

Yeah it's been posted here a few times.

It's HBGary served up by the Air Force. Here's the core of their spy tool called Qosmos (a Packet Forensics tool):

Emphasis added.

"Qosmos provides law enforcement agencies with a powerful solution to identify a target using multiple virtual IDs and intercept all related IP-based communications. Any trigger, such as a “user login = target” initiates intercept of all IP traffic related to the “target.”

Example of recognized applications and protocols VoIP Email (POP, SMTP) Webmail (Gmail, Hotmail, Live Mail, SquirrelMail, Yahoo mail, etc.) Instant Messaging (Aim, SNM, Skype, Yahoo, Google Talk, QQ, Maktoob, Paltalk, etc.) Online games (World of Warcraft) Online classified ads Audio/Video (H.323, SIP, MGCP, RTP, RTCP, MMSE, RTSP, SHOUTcast, Yahoo Video, MSN Video, SCCP, etc.) Web applications (Dailymotion, Google, eBay, Google Earth, HTTP, MySpace, Wikipedia, YouTube, etc.)

Example of information extracted Caller, phone number, called party, duration of call Webmail login, email address, sender, receiver, subject matter, attached documents Instant messaging sender, receiver, contact lists and status Forum login, IP address, MAC address, mobile ID (IMSI, IMEI) Protocols identified even for unidirectional traffic (e.g. email by satellite)."

Face it though, the internet was never here for our enjoyment.

Further: "They" don't need to run GLP. They exploit GLP just like they exploit thousands of other forums. GLP is simply the primary pollination vector. As the software army is chipping away at confidence of the site users, the content bots are pushing auto-posts that have been pre-scripted and pooled. The bot persona conditionally draws from said categorized pool.

A human technician is handling the bot teams and using human interaction when necessary to preserve the core assets.

OH NOES. An Opinion differing from that of the majority...it's a goddamned conspiracy.

Seriously? As long as I've been on the net (a long fucking time) it's been a cesspool of trolling, hatred and discontent. Grown some thicker fucking skin if you feel "offended" that someone doesn't "agree with your viewpoint"

The real "Battlefield" is in your head...and has been for a while...

If you think going to ground war is the big leagues for a few billion bucks worth of merely cheaper oil deals then ask yourself how much selling Iphones, Spring fresh whateva, Psycho-pharma drugs etc etc is worth...every day, week, month...for years on end...and you don't need a war machine in the classic sense to do it either, which aren't all that easy to come by.

We buy 100 of millions of bottles of what mostly is bottled tap water every month...at a price that is more than double the price of gasoline in many cases...why?...because we "want" it...

It creates the next "Star"...get's the next politician elected, the next new fad, the latest and greatest "thing"...the next thing you fight against or fight for...it's where the battle for influence really is.

This clearly happened with the shit in Wisconsin. How much money did the Koch brothers put out for it I wonder.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1141935

I don't know about that one. I am from Wisconsin and I can see, even from my friends Facebook arguments, that this issue has bitterly divided the state and the nation. The discussions on here get very heated and you can tell it's a genuine sign of emotion.

A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. †.

Ive even been to football message boards with shills on the rant page. Usually same screen name but there 24/7 so obviously more than one person using that alias.

Almost immediately after you post a topic or reply they come magically armed with with reams of text, much more than a casual user would type. The tactic is to overwhelm you with multiple false points that take hours to counter thus taking up all your time in a hunting expedition all the while convincing the others that their false paradigm is really the truth.

Now where do I apply for that job?

Yeah, it would be funny to see me doing that kind of movement to underscore a point.

One of the things I don't ever want to be guilty of is rash judgement, so when it's directed to me, unwarranted, I might add, I have to wonder if the perp might be one of those "disinfo agents" spoken about.

Exactly.

This is just the next step in marketing programs.

Look how far back Neilsen ratings were being done. That was probably not even the beginning of collecting data.

They can track eyes in an audience to see what part of the currently viewable commercial/advertisment, etc., is being looked at on tv.

Soon they'll know how many times we go to the bathroom or have sex.

However, this is not all benign. Nefarious agendas are afoot.
