Anonymous Coward User ID: 1278610 United States 03/04/2011 10:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | here is the link for Pennsylvania... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1280992[link to www.portal.state.pa.us] I compared the February WARN notices for 2010 and 2011...most layoffs set for March/April time frame... Comparing notices from same month (Feb.) 2010 and this year I found a 13% increase in the numbers of employees in PA afected be either closings or layoffs ( 795 in 2010 and 906 in 2011)... Your Labor and Industry website for your state probably lists the same notices for your state so you can see which and how many companies are laying off/closing... i'll suspend my disbelief in the recovering economy and the creation of enough jobs to get things moving again until i see some WARN numbers from other states that show improvement year over year...if you can find yours go ahead and post lets compare but here in Pennsylvania closings/layoffs are affecting 13% more employees than last year same time... ..oh and i'm sure the WARN notices don't encompass all planned closings/firings/layoffs just state program here in PA that some employers follow... ...nothing that noone on here doesn't already know but remeber the folks who got let go over the past 2-3 years are not neccesarily working again or "gainfully" employed with wages that replaced the ones they lost... remember these numbers of upcoming layoffs when reading the news reports...those new hire numbers are already reduced by probably 10% since more jobs are already on the chopping block..sorry for the long read but these WARN notices are just another piece of the workforce picture if you want to figure out the truth for yourself since noone is giving us the truth.... Also, aren't the reported numbers bogus, since they are taking from the unemployment rolls? Many people have used their UEC benefits up and are still unemployed. Also there are a huge number of underemployed. This is not better, just sugar coated. Thanks for bringing this to our attention OP. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1280992 United States 03/04/2011 01:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ok so CA looks to be in a bit better shape.... at first i compared lossed jobs for March/April 2010 (13,120) to what is listed so far for March/ April 2011 (7,315) and you get roughly a 56% reduction in the number of jobs being lost... then i thought ok maybe CA businesses report in slower so I compared just March 2010 (4,482) to March 2011 (4161) still a reduction albit smaller 6%but remeember we are only in the first few days of March so maybe more closing notices for March and April are to follow? So California could be said to be getting on the right track unles of course a whole lot of closing for March/April have not yet been reported? |
