'Wahhabism is a non-religious movement[1] or a branch[2] within Khawarji Islam that is considered extremist and/or heretical by many Sunni[2] and Shi'a, such as the Islamic Supreme Council of America, and condemns all Shi'a and most Sunnis as non-Muslim in turn.[2] It is claimed that it was developed (or self described "revived") by an 18th century Muslim theologian (Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab) from Najd, Saudi Arabia, who advocated purging Islam of "impurities". The terms "Wahhabi" and "Salafi/Najdi" (as well as ahl al-hadith, people of hadith) are often used interchangeably, but Wahhabi has also been called "a particular orientation within Salafism",[2] an orientation some consider ultra-conservative.[5][6]'
